Dear Stakeholders,

After more than 20 years, NIST has decided to discontinue the Health IT Program. An official NIST reorganization takes effect on April 5, 2026, marking the end of the NIST Health IT Group.

To ensure an orderly shutdown, a transition period will run from April 5 to October 1, 2026. During this time:

  • Service Continuity: We expect minimal disruption to tooling and support as NIST fulfills current obligations.
  • Future Hosting: It is anticipated that many tools and projects will transition to Prometheus Computing, LLC, which is establishing a new Health IT Division
  • Open Access: Tools and source code will remain in the public domain and be available via a legacy website and GitHub.

Information Session

We invite you to join us for a Teams meeting on Thursday March 26, 2026, to discuss these initial transition plans in more detail.

Meeting Details:

  • Date: Thursday, March 26, 2026
  • Time: 11:00 AM EST
  • Topic: Sunset and Transition Plans for the NIST Health IT Program
