Dear all:

I am very sorry for this delay. I have been overwhelmed by all the stuff this week so far.

However that was not the point.

The promotion talk in Guangzhou has been separated into two parts, one on the main campus and one on the east campus. The international students buddies from Lingnan (University) College have played an important role in organizing this whole events. They have been in charge of the publicity and the on-spot management of the venue of these events. The name list of the attendees are:

Main campus:

Maria Luk          (IIE HK)
Stephie Huang   (06 Chan fellow)
Catherine Xu      (06 Chan fellow)
Vivica Xiong       (07 Chan fellow)
Jack Huang       (07 Chan fellow)

east campus:

Maria Luk          (IIE HK)
Jasmine Chan    (06 Chan fellow)
David Huang      (06 Chan fellow)
Rita Zhong         (07 Chan fellow)
Stephanie Chen (07 Chan fellow)
Vivica Xiong       (07 Chan fellow)

The content of each attendee's speech is

Main campus:

Maria Luk          The tips on application/Lingnan Foundation's history/W.T.Chan fellowships program briefings
Stephie Huang   How to prepare and the mission and vision of this program/understanding of Lingnan's motto and why has been picked as a Chan fellow
Catherine Xu      The program at LA leg
Vivica Xiong       A whole-packaged overview of the program
Jack Huang       Dark side of the American life---I was playing the devil's advocate.

east campus:

Maria Luk          |the same
Jasmine Chen    |briefing of the program at UCB leg/how to be an outstanding and well-rounded student
David Huang      |the mission and vision of the W.T.Chan fellowship program/China's future social elites-leaders/global vision
Rita Zhong         |several reasons for a liberal arts students to be confident
Stephanie Chen |The program at LA leg/some practical problems will face in the States
Vivica Xiong       (07 Chan fellow)

As you might know from Vivica that the audience was not as many as expected, especially on the east campus. However I think the students on the east campus are more prepared. Some had their first draft of application form turned in. And former fellows have given out their suggestions.

It is the first year of holding somewhat a promotion activity on campus. However, a following survey will done in the interview to see the effect of this talk.

At last I have two things to announce.

The first is that more than 20 former fellows have confirmed that they will participate the reunion table. I will send out information as text msg on Nov. 19. In case you will miss it, I would love to announce the detail again.

Venue: Mu Dan Room, Shi Wei Tian Restraunt, Sun Yat-sen University
Time:   7:00PM, 11.25.2008, Tuesday

The second thing is that I would love to express my gratitude to some people.

They are:

my students-they have done a lot. I am so pround of them. They even invited honor guard of SYSU FOR FREE.

Leslie-thank you for supporting this crazy idea

Karen-Without whom I can do nothing and for her tolerence and her professionalism

Maria-thank you for coming and for being with us in the crazy karaoke night

Catherine-thank you for spending your Birthday with us. You are amazing!

David-thank you for your presentation.Together with Jasmine's, yours has been considered one of the two best among my students.

Stephie-thank you for being the greatest MC!

Jasmine-Thank you for being there even though you are sick. You are so wonderful even you are not in the optimal state. Your suggestion has definitely improved the design of the talk.

Rita-Even though you had to rush from HK to GZ in the early morning, you still made it! And the liberal arts students were so cheered up by you.

Stephanie-thank you for your input from the proposal stage of this event

Vivica-OMG, you have done so much more than we supposed you to.Thank you so much for your wonderful job.

And Hil and the current fellows and Elisa and Ada. Thank you for your input into this event.

I enjoyed so much working with you. I love you so much.

See you soon.

Best
Yours

Dear Everyone,

From what I can see, it looks like the promotion was terrific. It’s just wonderful that all of you made such an effort to share your experiences and advice.  One goal for the application process is to make it a learning experience for everyone who applies—not just the selected Fellows.  Clearly, anyone who attended either of these events learned not only about the WT Chan Fellows Program but gained exposure to the value of a well-rounded education and insights into the U.S. gleaned via this program.

Happy birthday to Catherine; I hope Jasmine is feeling better.  I know Hil, Shirley Mow and new Trustee Michael Woo are all looking forward to seeing you on November 25th.

Thanks so much to all.

Leslie
