Harvard China Night 2012 was successfully held on 28 Oct 2012 in the Ball Room of Charles Hotel. More than 300 guests from the New England and New York area attended the event despite the unfavorable weather condition. Professor Erza Vogel, Zhiwu Chen and Francis Fukuyama were our keynote speakers. Professor Erza Vogel is the leading authority on Asia studies and the first director of Harvard Asia Center. He has recently authored the book Deng Xiaoping and Transformation of China and gave a speech on “Deng’s Reform and the Road Ahead” during the event. Zhiwu Chen is a Professor of Finance at Yale School of Management, specializing in finance theory, securities valuation, and the economy of China. He presented his view on “Can China Sustain Its Phenomenal Growth”. Fukuyama has been a Senior Fellow at the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law at Stanford University since July 2010. He is best known for his book The End of History and the Last Man, which argued that the worldwide spread of liberal democracies and free market capitalism of the West and its lifestyle may signal the end point of humanity's sociocultural evolution and become the final form of human government. During the Night, he shared his perspective on “Chinese Political Development – Past and Future”.
In the past few years, distinguished speakers, including Mr. John Thornton, Chairman of Brookings Institute and former President of Goldman Sachs, Dr. Ziying Fu, China’s Vice Minister of Commerce, Dr. David Ellwood, Dean of Harvard Kennedy School, Anthony Saich, Director of Ash Center at Harvard Kennedy School, also spoke at the event.
Harvard China Night 2013 is tentatively scheduled to take place on 26 Oct 2013, in Harvard Kennedy School.
