Speaker bios:

Wei Li, Ph.D.

Fidelity Biosciences

Executive Partner - China

Prior to joining Fidelity in 2005, Dr. Li focused his effort on healthcare and life science investment opportunities at Baird Venture Partners, the venture capital arm of R.W.Baird. Prior to Baird, he led drug discovery projects and technology licensing due diligence at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, a small-molecule therapeutic company based in Cambridge, MA. He also worked in strategic marketing at Serono International S.A., a biopharmaceutical company based in Geneva, Switzerland. During his scientific career, Wei first-authored numerous scientific publications in journals including Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Journal of Biological Chemistry.

Wei received a B.S., with distinction, in Chemical Physics from University of Science and Technology of China, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Mammalian Genetics from Harvard University, and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, where he was elected Beta Gamma Sigma, with a concentration in Finance, Accounting and Marketing. Dr. Li serves on the Board of Directors of TCT Medical and Innovent Biologics.

Wesley S. Chan, Ph.D.

Senior Vice President, Director, Stock Selection Research

Acadian Asset Management

Wes joined Acadian in September 2011 as Director, Stock Selection Research where he will help lead Acadian’s bottom-up research effort, working closely with Malcolm Baker in formulating Acadian’s Investment Research agenda. Wes had 14 years of investment experience. He previously worked at Goldman Sachs Asset Management where he served as Vice President in the Quantitative Investment Strategies group. There he was a leading member of the research team responsible for developing alpha themes and implementing new signals. Prior to that, he was a partner and lead equity researcher at AlphaSimplex Group. Education: Ph.D., Financial Economics, MIT Sloan School of Management; A.B, Economics, Princeton University.

Richard Tan

Director of Equity at PanAgora Asset Management

Richard joined PanAgora Asset Management in 2008 and currently holds the Senior Portfolio Manager position for the $10B StockSelector large/small cap funds and diversified arbitrage fund. Prior to that, Richard has worked for Wellington Management, Fidelity Investments and Accenture and has 11 years of experience in investment management. Richard graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University with a Bachelor degree in Computer Science in 1997, received a MBA from Boston College and a Master of Science in Computer Science from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey-New Brunswick in 2002.



Gang Hu, Ph.D., CFA

Associate Professor of Finance at Babson College

Gang Hu is a tenured Associate Professor of Finance at Babson College, where he holds the Zwerling Family Endowed Term Chair. Previously, he held the Fidelity Term Chair. Dr. Hu specializes in the study of corporate finance, institutional investors, and trading. He has won several research awards including the WFA NASDAQ Award, 1st Prize at the Chicago Quantitative Alliance academic competition, and a Best Paper Award from the Eastern Finance Association. Dr. Hu has published his research widely in academic journals, practitioner journals, and books, including Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Financial Analyst Journal. Prior to joining Babson College, Dr. Hu was a Quantitative Trade Analyst at Fidelity Management & Research Company’s Global Equity Trading group. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Boston College and a B.E. in System Engineering from Tianjin University, China. He is a CFA charterholder.
