MIDDLE EAST INITIATIVE: Changing Policy: Health Care for Conflict- Affected Communities in Syria and the DRC

Time: 4 to 5.30 pm

A panel discussion on health care provision among conflict-affected populations, with a focus on communities in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Syrian civilians in Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan. The panelists include Jennifer Scott, Director, Global and Community Health Program, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Instructor, Harvard Medical School; Kathleen Hamill, Fellow, FXB Center for Health and Human Rights; and Patrick Vinck, Director, Program on Vulnerable Populations, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative.

Sami Atallah, Director, Libanese Center for Policy Studies, will discuss key recent policy challenges and policy debates in Lebanon, including decentralization, the electoral law and gas policies. Ali Karimi and Raja Ghawi were appointed co-chairs of the Harvard Arab Weekend
Ali Zubi is chairing the Arab Students Society/Harvard College
Hamzeh Derbas and Michelle will be heading the MENA Club at Harvard Business School
Mohamad Siam is chairing the MIT Egyptian students Association

Rani Daher (HKS) will be taking the lead on connecting the new cohort of HKS Arab students ( 28 new students including 10 Mason fellows) with current Arab students and Alumni- He will be reaching out to HKS Arab students next week.
