Dear All,

Thank you for attending the last Arab Caucus meeting-  Based on our discussion and other one to one meetings, here are the suggestions on how to move forward;

-  Firstly, the Caucus will carry out a series of events under the overarching theme of " Vision for the Arab World for 2025"-  Under this vision, a number of themes can be identified based on the interests of the members of the Caucus

- The ultimate goal of the Caucus is to empower its members to produce different activities under the new theme, and support them with the logistical back up needed as per our capacity.

-  Develop a takeaway formatted document which would feed into a portal carrying the same theme "Vision for the Arab World 2025". This portal will serve as a forum to articulate and refine proposed visions.

- Member of the Caucus are encouraged to  follow up on different vision themes and start different initiatives that would have impact on the ground.

On a last note, we need your support in;

-  providing contact details of the chairs/co-chairs of all Arab Students caucuses at the other Harvard Universities, Law School, GSD.... or share with us contacts of the students who are members in these Caucuses

-  contact of students at HKS or other universities who can support with the development of the Caucus' portal-

Finally, we suggest that we hold a weekly meeting from 11.30 a.m to 12.30 p.m at the Forum ( HKS Littauer Building)  where we can meet informally and discuss updates.

Best Regards

Hi everyone,

Hopefully you've had an enjoyable break.

I'm just writing to share information about a new documentary about Egypt's political situation that was just nominated for an Oscar called the Square. The director (a Harvard grad) is attending a screening of it at nearby Brattle Theatre this Monday at 7pm, but its also showing at other days and times at the theatre. Starting tomorrow, the film can also be viewed on Netflix.

I'll be at the Monday evening screening and I thought some of you might be interested as well.

Look forward to seeing everyone back on campus!

Best,
Nada

THE SQUARE

Directed by Jehane Noujaim

Monday, January 20 at 7pm

The Brattle Theatre, Cambridge MA

Tickets: $10

The DocYard, Boston’s premier showcase for nonfiction film, is excited to present the internationally-acclaimed documentary THE SQUARE, by award-winning director and Harvard-graduate Jehane Noujaim (THE CONTROL ROOM). The film tells the story of the Egyptian Revolution from the 2011 overthrow of the country’s dictator, to the forced military removal of the Muslim Brotherhood president in the summer of 2013. THE SQUARE is the winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at Sundance, Toronto, and RIDM, and The New York Times has called it “[a story] that has not yet been told with such rousing and heartbreaking clarity”.

Director Jehane Noujaim will attend in person for a post-screening discussion with Robb Moss, Professor of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University and director of SECRECY and THE SAME RIVER TWICE.

Special Support for this event is provided by the Gleitsman Program in Leadership for Social Change at the Harvard Kennedy School Center for Public Leadership.

Synopsis: The Egyptian Revolution has been an ongoing rollercoaster over the past two and a half years. Through the news, we only get a glimpse of the bloodiest battle, an election, or a million man march. At the beginning of July 2013, we witnessed the second president deposed within the space of three years.

The Square is an immersive experience, transporting the viewer deeply into the intense emotional drama and personal stories behind the news. It is the inspirational story of young people claiming their rights, struggling through multiple forces, in the fight to create a society of conscience.

Filmmaker Bio: Jehane Noujaim, raised in Cairo, Egypt began her career as a photographer. Following a B.A. in Film and Philosophy at Harvard, Noujaim went on to produce and direct the award-winning documentaries STARTUP.COM (2001) and CONTROL ROOM (2004). She has worked in both in the U.S. and the Middle East.
