to HKN/IEEE merger
Beta Chapter has submitted four proposed Constitutional Amendments to
Nationals to address three issues we saw. You should see them on the
ballot in February, and we will be interested in discussing them at
the Regional Leadership Conference at Carnegie-Mellon in November. We
also would like as many people to be aware of them and our reasons in
advance. I am interested in hearing any questions or feedback.

The full text for the amendments are in a file called
Beta_Chapter_Amendments.pdf.

Amendment 1 makes it possible for chapters, with a lot of effort, to
recall a member of the BoG. There is currently no mechanism for
chapters to remove a member of the Board, who they believe to be
acting against the best interest of the organization.

Amendment 2 puts student members on the BoG. One thing that was
universally agreed upon at the conference in Chicago was that there
needs to be better communication between the BoG and students. This
measure does a fair amount to rectify that issue.

Amendments 3 and 4 are intended to eliminate the primary concerns
students had with the IEEE merger. They specify that membership in
any organization (including IEEE) can't be a consideration for
membership and specify that no fees other than those specified in the
Constitution (IEEE membership dues, for example) can be assessed.
