Dear HKN Advisors and Members:
As you are all well aware, the past several months have been important
ones for Eta Kappa Nu.
You will recall that in December 2007 you were informed that a
Memorandum of Understanding between HKN and the IEEE that would
involve merging the two organizations, had been developed and signed.
The HKN Board had spent several months in discussions and review of
such a merger and had concluded that it was the best way to ensure the
future of HKN. They also concluded that such a merger could provide
additional opportunities for HKN to allow enhanced services to members
in addition to providing the potential for scholarship funds.
In early April all chapters received materials pertaining to the
merger and members were asked to carefully consider the information
and vote to approve or reject the merger.
The results of that vote are as follows: 62 Chapters voted to approve
the merger; 58 Chapters voted to reject the merger. The vote tracking
form is attached for your review.
The Board of Governors wishes to thank all those chapters that took
the time to consider the issues and vote on the proposal. It should
be noted that the merger issue generated votes from 120 chapters - a
record number. This is in sharp contrast to the 30 chapters that
typically submit votes each spring to approve the organization's new
slate of officers.
Best regards,
J. David Irwin
President
