hk.rec.audio-visual Discussions on AV and Hi-Fi system
hk.rec.audio-visual is an unmoderated newsgroup which passed its vote
for creation by 133:2 as reported in hk.newsgroups.announce on 1 Apr 1997.
The charter, culled from the vote result announcement:
hk.rec.audio-visual is a place for discussing matters related to "Audio
& Visual"."Audio & Visual" matters meaning stuffs related to AV and Hi-Fi
system. Examples of the discussions include:
a. netters can share AV & Hi-Fi system experiences.
b. Discussion of AV technology for example: Digital Dolby
AC-3, Dolby surround pro logic, THX, DTS, SRS etc.
c. Discussion of Hi-Fi components, for example:
Source Equipments: Turner, CD player, MD player/recorder, DAT
player/recorder, Turntable, VHS cassette player/recorder, DVD
player, ...
Amplifier: Power amp., Pre/control amp., receiver, integrated
amplifier, AV center, ...
Output Equipments: Speaker, Sub-woofer, TV, Projectors (Front
or Rear),...
Others: Outboard crossover, Outboard DSP processor (AC3/THX/dts),
speaker cable, interconnect, spike.
d. How to make the best out of your existing Hi-Fi or AV system.
e. On top of general domestic application, discussion of Car Audio,
Professional studio and business conference facilities are also
applicable as long as they are directly related with audio-visual
equipment.
f. Recommendations on Best Buy Hi-Fi or AV system.
g. Trading of second hand Hi-Fi or AV stuff between netters.
h. How to make do-it-yourself system or modify equipment.
i. Discussion of AV software like LP, VCD, CD, DVD.

The above are only some examples, not the boundary for the
discussion area.
Languages
=========
As it is expected that the target readers are mostly Chinese plus
a small proportion of people who cannot view Chinese or foreigners, the
articles in hk.rec.audio-visual is expected to be in English and Chinese.
For Chinese, it should follow the common coding practice in Hong Kong, for
example, the current common coding in Hong Kong is Big-5 Chinese.
Articles posted in languages other the two mentioned above are not welcomed.
Morals and Ethics
=================
To keep a good atmosphere for the discussions in hk.rec.audio-
visual, hk.rec.audio-visual supposes to have the following standpoints
towards cross-posting and foul languages:
a. Cross-posting -- participants can cross-post any articles
which is related to the contents of hk.rec.audio-visual into hk.rec.audio-
visual newsgroups. However, articles irrelavent to AV and Hi-Fi system
are not welcomed to be cross-posted into hk.rec.audio-visual.
b. Flame wars -- hk.rec.audio-visual is only a newsgroup for the
discussion of AV and Hi-Fi system, not for anybody to flame others. Hence,
flame wars are prohibited.
c. Foul languages -- Since hk.rec.audio-visual is not a place
for the art of foul languages, foul languages should be prohibited in
hk.rec.audio-visual
