Very cool .. Nimbits seems to be the first Internet of Things service
with an MQTT on-ramp. Big step forward for telemetry applications.

There are also XMPP on-ramp code samples out there. AJAX and REST
options exist too, complete with JAVA and .NET wrappers. Put any
process data you like in the cloud using whatever options that make
sense for your app.

Hi Steve,

I used Cosm a bit back when it was Pachube.

I have not done.any.recent.feature-for-feature assessments. I.do
recall that my impression was that NimBits.was.the better overall
architecture.

I'm not a big fan of the REST APIs. Both Cosm and NimBits offer
a.REST API. I kind of prefer using XMPP.

NimBits appears to have a more evolved Machine-to-machine
architecture. The ability to route.events through Wolfram Alpha is a
nice touch.

Most importantly, NimBits is basd.on Google app engine.
That.let's.you hitch NimBits.data.to various other.Google.APIs.with
ease. It also makes.it. pretty easy to run your own,
private.NimBits.server.

There is a NimBits Google group. Stop by and post your question
there .. There are a number of fairly expert Cosm users.who also
use.NimBits.

I tried MQTT on Cosm and it's apparently not working at this time. I also saw people on the forums complaining about it. However, to play with MQTT I wrote some Python code on the Pi that used the test.mosquitto.org server. The protocol seemed straightforward to use.

There's a nice discussion of the tradeoffs between MQTT and XMPP at:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7129821/mqtt-vs-xmpp-which-should-i-choose

I'll investigate NimBits some more. It sounds interesting. Thanks for the information.
