The Positive Justice Project (PJP) is a national coalition of organizations and individuals, including those living with HIV, particularly those accused or prosecuted, medical and public health professionals, law enforcement, community organizers, advocates, attorneys, sex workers, social scientists and others working to end HIV criminalization in the Unites States. PJP is a truly community-driven, multidisciplinary collaboration to end government reliance on an individual’s positive HIV test result as proof of intent to harm, and the basis for irrationally severe treatment in the criminal justice system.
PJP governance is led by the PJP Partners group, who share decision-making on policy and advocacy positions and strategies. CHLP believes complex policy problems are best addressed with the input of multiple perspectives unified through shared values and goals. The Partners Group will ensure diversity of experience and input but a common denominator of mutual respect, transparency and commitment to coalition and movement building.
The Partners Group current members are:
Justin Rush, Manager, Policy and Legislative Affairs, NASTAD
Larry Frampton, Community Co-Chair, Ryan White Part A, Nashville HIV Planning Council
Meghan Maury, Senior Policy Counsel, National LGBTQ Task Force
Wendy Armstrong, Medical Director, Grady Health System, Ponce de Leon Infectious Disease Center
Catherine Hanssens, Executive Director, The Center for HIV Law and Policy
Lauren Fanning, Senior Community Outreach Specialist, Positive Justice Project
Mayo Schreiber, Deputy Director, The Center for HIV Law and Policy
PJP policy making also is informed by input from a national Advisory Committee consisting of organizational and individual members from across the country. PJP’s goal is to have at least one organizational or individual member of the PJP Advisory Committee from every state and US territory where people living with HIV are currently incarcerated or facing prosecution on the basis of their HIV status.
Please read the attached memorandum of Understanding which describes the responsibilities and requirements for membership in the PJP Advisory Group and the commitments of the Positive Justice Project. If you are interested in joining please send a return email indicating your interest.
