Attached is the output of Judi's cool Google Docs form, including
descriptions and submitter info (one of the submitters is me).
Let's have a spirited discussion about which would be a good match for
Twestival, keeping in mind Twestival HQ's requirements:

Let's say we'll have our charity and a backup selected by Wednesday,
to then contact the first and hopefully have an agreement to partner
by Friday?
Mahalo!

Hawaii Foodbank was the example I posted a few weeks ago, but then it
was pointed out that the Hawaii Foodbank is the focus of a special
event within days of Twestival in partnership with the Social Media
Club of Hawaii. They'll have their hands full that week, and certainly
will have all the support and expertise they need.
Which isn't to say someone couldn't have nominated them, but nobody
did, at least before the Friday deadline!
So. Comments on the four submissions?

I did nominate them in our first round (testing a form that we could use
for submissions), but I might have not nominated them on the last form.
Oops.
Anyway, we did discover that they'd have their hands full with a few
upcoming events (SMC HI and another Chefs of Honolulu fundraisers), so
while they /might/ still be able to participate, they are not in as
needy a state as our others. I think that's why we didn't include them
in our latest round. It seems less likely that we'd get a good turn-out
at our fundraiser if there are several others for the same cause around
the same time.
*holding coffee cup up to toast to the morning with you* :)
Interesting comment too about the blood bank. Who said they'd rather
have our blood than money? ;) Blood is more useful to them, and to us
if/when we need it.
I'll confess that I don't know anything about Family Promise or Life
Foundation, and that Peace is a timely and good subject (but United
Nations doesn't have that local feel). Personally I'm not feeling that
any ONE is a strong candidate--enough to raise a party for. Isn't there
a charity about health and safety for keiki? or a hospice care?
Something people might take personally?

With FP, because VERY intolerant faith-based initiatives for social services groups have gotten tons of funding and have a bad rep, in MY community, I get a little nervous about a group I'm not familiar with...even if they have a noble goal.
Willing to listen to arguments FOR them. Open to learning more.

No worries, and I didn't say they wouldn't, just that we might as well
spread the love. Enjoy your caffeine, and I'd love your thoughts on
the four charities that were submitted!

Hospice suggestion is well taken.
And thanks, Judi, for the toast. :^D

I knew people who worked with Life Foundation years ago, and think
it's a worthy cause. AIDS is also a global problem with local impact,
something that speaks to Twestival's overall goals. Don't know anyone
with the group now, though their Twitter stream shows an appreciation
for, and interest in, social media platforms.
I hadn't researched the other two groups, but the Twestival guidelines
do note that we'd want to steer clear of strong political or religious
connections, however they may want to be objective or inclusive on the
surface.

Trying to think outside of the box...
That said, hunger charities need food, blood banks need blood, but all charities will not turn away money, especially given the headlines just these past couple of weeks. ;)

All good...
Just heard from Twestival HQ, asking about our charity, and noting
that THEY have to review/vet our partner before it's announced, so
that shortens our timeline more. Let's see if we can provide a primary
and alternate by tomorrow?

I've formally submitted BBH to Twestival HQ with this plan, and we
should hopefully hear back by Friday.

We have a date. We have a cause. We even have some funds and a couple
of sponsors waiting in the wings. WE NEED A VENUE, most of all, and to
start on food (if any) and an entertainment program.
Imua!

Laurie,
I am writing to confirm that the Blood Bank of Hawaii has been
selected by the organizing team in Honolulu to be the recipient of
Twestival 2011 and we have official approved this selection. I am
thrilled to learn more about your nonprofit's work and look forward to
highlighting your efforts on March 24th. Congratulations!
I wanted to ensure you were in touch with Ryan, the lead organizer for
Twestival Honolulu and that you understand the aims of our campaign
globally and how this would potentially support you locally.
100% of our donations will go towards supporting projects and the
breakdown of the impact for donors will be great to see. I'd be
interested in identifying with Ryan's leadership specifically where
our funds would go and what additional volunteer or donation services
we could provide through our network. We are looking forward to
following the progress and helping you grow with social media.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all.
Thank you.
