Spoke to one couple yesterday who live in Ickleford; it sounds a real mess.
Quite part from not wanting the humps, residents tried to warn highway
engineers that what they were proposing wasn't feasible & apparently HCC
contractors have had to dig up what they installed to begin with. Sounds
like another saga of the 'experts' knowing what's best for the community.

That is very disturbing, and what a waste of money.

I get the impression that the Parish Council is partly to blame for
this fiasco. They managed to annoy Ickleford school's head teacher by
sending out leaflets about the proposed traffic calming with the
school logo on, without any consultation with the school whatsoever.
Looks like they thought it might be controversial and wanted the
school to carry the can!

It is a pity that the police can't be persuaded to take a little more interest in speed limit enforcement, which to a certain extent could be self-funding via fines.

Hertfordshire Highways' traffic calming schemes do not seem to be effective unless they involve speed bumps, which are disliked. The road narrowing schemes with signs add to street clutter, do not slow the traffic down, and present cyclists with pinch-point hazards.

It would be nice to see a few more aggressive motorists having their collars fault pour encourager les autres.

There is always the sharrow idea, discussed elsewhere on this group.
A better solution for cyclists, and probably a better solution for
everyone. I have heard of a lot of accident being caused either
directly or indirectly by speed bumps, so it is even clear to me that
it makes the roads safer. Also they increasing driving costs, even if
the averaged speed of traffic is reduced.
