Why were traditional folk musicians offended when Dylan began to use amplified instruments? For the people who were offended, they had seen Dylan as their leader of some sort because he had brought them all and other artists to folk music, and then they saw him leading them all towards rock & roll. It's unfortunate but understandable, how people who dedicated their lives towards traditional folk music, would definitely be upset when the one that they all loved, that in their minds they thought that he was turning his back on the style of music and all of them. (that didn't really make sense sorry)
Is acoustic folk music more “authentic” and folk-rock too commercial to also be heard as authentic?
Folk artists played acoustic guitars, it was like the unwritten rules and the Folk style nature. And that's just the way it was supposed to be. So electric guitars were not accepted as folk instruments in anyway by anyone.
Frank Zappa criticized singer/songwriters for being too personal and too quick to dump their problems and feelings on their listeners, who are already burdened with their own problems. Is the widespread popularity of music by singer/songwriters an indication that he was wrong, or did he make a valid point?
I don't really agree with Zappa. I think that The Widespread popularity of music by artists of that time was definitely an indication that he was WRONGGG. :)
