Sharing a message from Carol Williams --

Edgefield neighbors;

The new bill before Metro Council tonight is huge for future preservation of Historic Edgefield and all other Historic Zoning overlays.  Metro Historic has been a vital force . Without this independent voice, Edgefield would have been demolished by planning decades ago.

It is short sighted to ignore taking a stand on this bill.  Nashville is not known to prioritize any preservation over developers/investors.

Metro Historic worked with neighbors for decades to save what little we have left.  Hundreds of homes were destroyed by Urban Renewal before Metro Historic and our zoning overlays.

Let’s not overlook that in Nashville, we cannot take for granted any  help/interests
in saving our history without an independent Metro Historic Department
and Historic Commission.  Yes, we have exterior regulations but without Metro Historic, we would have been overtaken with new developments with no regard for
for our historic district.

Activists neighbors embraced Metro Historic involvement and saved Historic Edgefield.  Many neighborhoods since have also benefited from the support of Metro Historic.  Meshing this department with planning gives Nashville’s history no voice.
