As you know, the Scrap Yard rezone legislation is scheduled for third and final reading at Tuesday’s council meeting. I have been hard at work over the past few weeks devising amendments to substantially improve it. I have heard from many, many of you about this and you have confirmed and fortified my instinct and my position from the beginning: while this is a significant site, it also must work well with our East side neighborhoods. We can’t jump the tourist party across the river, and we can’t induce a massive amount of car traffic into the East Bank to trap us in East with gridlock, and squander our chance to build a walkable, real neighborhood there. Since this site is not in District 6, although it really is our part of town, this is not our bill, and amendments are the vehicle we have to achieve these goals.

Since I’ve gotten so many meeting requests the past couple weeks and outreach from folks who want to help, I will be holding office hours for Scrap Yard questions and discussion this Friday from 3-5 in the Bongo side yard. We can continue the conversation after 5 at Fridays By The River if needed :) I know it’s often hard to make in person meetings so email/call/chat on the street are still just as good.

Thank you all for engaging on this and see you soon! Clay
