Dear Council,
Historic Sylvan Park, Inc. is an association of home owners in Sylvan Park and we, as an organization, have taken a position opposing SUBSTITUTE ORDINANCE NO. BL2012-292. We do not understand why a recording studio should get special privileges over any other business but we do know and understand how 8 to10 vehicles coming and going anytime of the day or night would be a real nuisance to the neighbors. We know that they have been doing it illegally, like a lot of other businesses. But if you legalize it, some will still not follow the rules and Codes enforcement has always been mediocre at best. That was the problem with Jameson’s home occupation bill. You really cannot enforce it, especially if you are trying to distinguish between a finite number like 10 and 11 cars. One car is easier to enforce.
We just need to keep businesses that have customers coming to the business out of residential zoning. That’s what commercial, SP, and Mixed Use zoning are all about. But people want to get by on the cheap. And it gives them a financial advantage over the real business operations. We are asking that you to vote NO on this Ordinance.
Your truly,
Wendell Goodman
President, Historic Sylvan Park, Inc.
