Subject: Opposed to Substitute Ordinance NO.
BL2012-292
Dear Council Members,
I would like to express my opposition to Substitute Ordinance NO. BL2012-292.
If someone wants to place a recording studio in their
home, the request should go through the normal zoning process for an SP or mixed
use zoning designation.
That way the neighborhood home owners have input into
the process through their elected officials, you, their Council
representative. By making this a Special Exception, you give
that decision to the non-elected Board of Zoning Appeals.
There are many reasons why the Council should not allow
these commercial businesses in residential neighborhoods, to mention a
few:
increased traffic
unfair competition to commercial recording
studios
safety hazard (remember Jack Clement's home studio
burning a few years back)
requires neighbors to initiate complaints, creates
community conflict
lack of strong Codes enforcement in
general.
We have seen the property values in many inner city
neighborhoods once in decline recently in crease in value because so much
has been done to protect the residential integrity of these
neighborhoods.
Recording studios are businesses. They need to
remain in non-residential areas.
I urge you to vote No on Substitute Ordinance
BL2012-292.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
John Summers
