Is there any way for me to purchase Serato Pitch n Time by itself? I have Serato DJ Pro and was hoping to get the pitch n time expansion, but I cannot see how to buy it without the other expansions I do not want. Any advice/ support is greatly appreciated.

Since Prime 4 also includes the Serato DJ PRO license in the price, I wanted to know if the Pitch 'n time package is also included, all this to get the Pitch Play function. Can any Prime 4 owner confirm?

Simple suggestion to incorporate the Izotope Time & Pitch Algorithm to Musical Mode. While I find Elastique amazing on all material, there are times where Izotope does way better in some occasions, especially percussion material by preserving the transients. Having both to choose from instantly, would make Cubase much more powerful at both production and editing stages.

I tried creating a rit in the rock opera clip. I selected the end of a chorus and took the selection beyond into the bridge so as to be able to control the return to the normal tempo as well. To get the waveform in the plug-in window you click on the 'Update Waveform' button at the bottom of the plug-in window; you can then draw the rit by creating 'anchors' through Command-clicking, just as you would with track automation with the Smart Tool enabled. Use the Preview button to check it works. The whole plug-in works just as if it was a real time plug-in, to the extent that I kept inadvertently pressing the space bar to audition things instead of using the Preview button! Once I was happy I clicked on Process in the normal way for an Audiosuite plug-in and there it was back in the track, done.

There is also a Variable Pitch-shift panel, which works in the same way as the Variable Time-stretch panel described above and can produce some very interesting effects. Finally, the Varispeed Pitch-shift panel links the time-stretch and pitch-shift together to give you a genuine varispeed plug-in. You no longer need to dust off your quarter-inch tape machine to get that varispeed effect. You can programme 'wobbles' or do a run down to stop as you can with Digidesign's Vari-fi, except that with Pitch 'n Time you can adjust the way the speed changes.

Every now and then we need to globally pitch the dialogue of a certain character. Making a villain scarier by pitching their performance down, helping to match a child actor's ADR to the original performance after their voice has changed, or distinguishing two roles played by the same actor are all good use cases.

But it got me thinking about various pitch plugin options. Is there a one size fits all option for pitching? Or perhaps some plugins work better in certain situations than others. Until now, I have never taken the time to do a comprehensive head to head test of our various pitching options. It's finally time to solve this question.

Running all these performances through the various plugins, I scored the results on a scale of 1-3. High marks for the least amount of coloration added to the sound. What I was looking for was a simple shift in pitch. If results were in my opinion passable for the client, they scored 3 points. Any noticeable coloration scored a 2. Any travesties a 1. I'll be the first to admit this is a biased test, but I don't know a better way to compare these results than to use my ears, which have many years of experience listening for problems on the mix stage. I also chose not to pitch every type of voice every which way, mainly because the sheer volume of audio tested was getting out of hand!

This plugin far and away outperformed the other options here. It was the best or tied for the best in each test. While it's not available as an insert, should you have the time to process the lines through Audio Suite, this is going to yield the best results across the board.

It is Important to note that while I am not testing graphic pitch/time shifting, I use SoundShifter Graphic (included as part of the overall SoundShifter plugin) as my go-to alternative to Pitch 'N Time for this purpose. The functionality alone is far worth the super low price tag. It seems the strength of the SoundShifter for me lies in the ability to shift graphically at a reasonable price.

From the jump, an added inconvenience of Celemony's Melodyne is the need to scan your audio in to the plugin in real time before manipulating. Once you have the audio in the plugin, from what I can tell Melodyne does its best to try and preserve the human quality of the original voice record. In other words, pitching up with Melodyne produces less of a 'chipmunk' like sound than Pitch II or SoundShifter. However, while I found that the performance stayed more human, normal dialogue was colored even more than SoundShifter by Melodyne. Pitching beyond a few semitones in either direction leaves you with robotic sounding dialogue that I do not consider usable. I think this is all a symptom of the plugins design, which was clearly meant for making small adjustments to song vocals (or larger adjustments - read autotune - in which a robotic affect is desirable). This is not my plugin of choice for dialogue pitching. That said, if you need a plugin for an autotune effect or want to get more 'designy' with your dialogue treatment, the functionality of Melodyne really shines. If you're going to use Melodyne for dialogue pitching, my suggestion is to use a rule of 3's, pitch shifting with a max of 3 semitones up or down.

Although I originally didn't want to include Serato's Pitch N Time in this shootout due to it's very high $800 price tag, curiosity got the best of me and I did download a demo to run it through a few tests. I was very surprised to find that what I had previously thought was the gold standard of pitching plugins performed worse than a built in Pro Tools plugin. Once again, Pitch Shift Legacy won the day in comparison. In the following side by sides, you can clearly hear the Pitch N Time examples coloring the sound, adding an undesirable effect.

In the end, among these pitch plugins, your best case by far is to use Pitch Shift Legacy, which requires Audio Suite processing. If you're in need of a cheap insert plugin I can only recommend SoundShifter or Melodyne for minimal adjustments. Soundshifter will get you decent results on lower/softer vocals, and Melodyne for anything louder. Should you need to go beyond a few semitones with these plugins, you enter the realm of sound design rather than realistic pitching.

Based on the game-changing DJM-S range. The DDJ-REV7 has everything the best DJs in the world have grown to know and love. Lever FX, centered performance pads, MAGVEL FADER PRO, and even horizontal pitch sliders to truly emulate a turntable setup.

Serato Pitch 'n Time Pro 3.0 gives you great-sounding time stretching and pitch shifting in Pro Tools. You get time compression/expansion from 1/8 speed to 8 x speed, and pitch shifting of up to 36 semitones - plus real-time preview. Time-stretch and pitch-shift functions each sport three interchangeable panels, from fixed ratios to complicated pitch and tempo changes that fluctuate over time. You can even warp sample timing by simply placing markers and moving them around. If you need to manipulate pitch and time in Pro Tools, you need Serato Pitch 'n Time Pro.

Why does Serato Pitch 'n Time Pro sound so good? Most time-stretching software has been designed using objective mathematical techniques that don't take human hearing into account. Serato took a different approach and developed a sophisticated model of the human auditory system. Pitch 'n Time software "listens" to your music and performs a thorough auditory scene analysis. Serato's patented technique produces results that subjectively "sound" the same as the source, just faster or slower.
Flexible, intuitive interface lets you work your way

Whether you're a composer, DJ, or producer, Serato knows that flexibility is vital to your workflow. That's why they designed Pitch 'n Time Pro 3.0 with independent tempo and pitch panels you can mix and match to suit your particular application. With time stretching by tempo change, length change, target length, or target BPM, and pitch shift by frequency change or semitone shift, Pitch 'n Time lets you work your way, and achieve stunning, professional results.
Serato Pitch 'n Time Pro 3.0 Features:

Yes, the ONE is compatible with and can host turntables for DVS control using the CD/Phono RCA deck inputs. Serato DVS control will require ownership of the DVS expansion pack from Serato DJ (sold separately at serato.com).

The time-stretching and pitch-shifting functions each have three interchangeable panels, ranging from simple fixed ratios to complex tempo and pitch alterations that vary over time. You can even warp the timing of your samples just by placing markers and moving them around. The tempo and pitch panels can be mixed and matched to suit your application, with real time previewing.

Pitch 'n Time LE makes professional quality pitch-shifting and time-stretching more accessible than ever before. Pitch 'n Time LE 3.0 is available for both Pro Tools and Logic Pro for use as an algorithm within Logic's Time & Pitch Machine.

There has been a lot of discussion about the various apps and plug-ins that do time-stretching. This thread is for posting comparisons of various apps so that people can make informed decisions about what apps/plug-ins will work for them.

I plan to also do Samplist, Cubasis 2, Ableton Live, Serato Sample...I might add Loopy HD and Auditor into the mix if time permits. Auditor is a tricky one because there are a lot of parameters one can tweak.
