Hi Everyone,

I work in a hospital that currently uses STAR for its HIS.  This year, I'm trying to build a better foundational knowledge of the technologies it uses.  This is partially because training material for the application itself is limited and partially to develop a more transferable skill set.

The three categories I think would be most relevant are: Linux, SQL & databases, and MUMPS.

Has anyone done anything similar or have advice for this approach?  Or, do you know of a repository for the STAR specific variants (like KBSQL).

Thank you,

Mark

I don’t think I completely understand your question.

But if you’re looking for KB_SQL info, they do have a knowledge base – it won’t be STAR specific but does have lots of really good info there

https://www.kbsystems.com/kbsql.html

There’s also a windows based query editor called QRE, so you still connect to STAR though the back end via ODBC and use KB_SQL like you would inside of STAR Vista Reporting in STAR… It looks more like T-SQL environment would with the colours for the key words and operators etc.  But any hard hitting complex coding I still do inside of STAR, the QRE version doesn’t always like it

As for MUMPS – good luck with that one ;)

I’d also think that you’d want HL7 interfaces in that list of skillsets?

Regards,

Kim

I’m sure there are still folks around that do, I’ll see if I can find an old mail with any contact info

In the interim I’m sure there’s still some of us seasoned SQL gurus around that can help out with specific questions.  And some of us would probably (off hours) do some free tutoring, sort of walk folks though the basics.

Hi Debbie!
Congratulations on retiring! What exactly are you looking for for SQL? I can reach out to a friend in TN who did work for us when I was at MS Baptist. She’s excellent with SQL.

Congratulations on your retirement, Debbie.  I’m going to be retiring from full-time work in about a year myself.  Might consider some adhoc SQL assignments or teaching then.  Soon there won’t be any of us left that know it.

Debbie,

Yes!  Congratulations!  I myself worked in the McKesson/SQL environment for approx. 20 years.  I retired from working in April 2017.  I enjoyed the McKesson environments and SQL, although sometimes it was very aggravating!  😊

I hope you find someone.

Leonard

Kevin Green is amazing.  We had him come to town several years ago to do a class and he was one of my go-to people at McKesson.  He also did presentations at InSight.

If you can get him to help you out, I'd do it.  :-)
