Greetings,

We are looking to increase our SIM digits from four to five.  I assume others have done this based posts I've searched here on hisnet...does anyone who has done this have any "gotchas" they didn't think about that would be good to know before going into this?

Also, we are trying to confirm our patient bills can handle the additional digit, but the person who used to be the analyst for the patient billing process is no longer with us and there is a knowledge gap on how these bills even get produced.  Is there a report that is run to produce the first patient bills that could be exported and sent to an agency (I know that we send a file to an outsource company to actually produce the bills, but I have no notes or documentation on the process).

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

We haven’t done that, but one thing you may want to check is any forms logic you may have.

For instance, if it was us making the changes, the FormFast preparer and jobs for patient bills etc. may need to have the logic adjusted to make sure they still work.

I remember when our incrementing DI checkin numbers rolled into 7 digits instead of 6 I had to go in and adjust so all the digits would show.

Besides the length of digits showing, if there was any logic based on specific codes, that would need adjusting too.
