Migrating current page templates to freemarker

Hi,

We currently have a number of bespoke built page templates that I would like to look at having recreated using Freemarker. Are there any details or steps that would allow us to migrate/clone the layout into freemarker fairly easily or will it be a case of rebuilding from scratch?

I am ideally trying to find the quickest to market approach for my developers and any documentation or real life experiences on this area would be advantageous.
