Dear Rajiv,

Thank you very much for the mail. Nice to see the discussions on the "Way of Mahavira". However, I think there is also scope to have discussions on  the development of Jainism, such as on the following:

(i) Background in which Lord Mahavira, a brahmin boy, with a king and queen as his foster parents, became the 24th and the last Tirthankara, about two centuries after Bhagavan Parshvanath, the 23rd Tirthankara. To my knowledge, Lord Mahavira is known to have added the fifth tenet to the four tenets of Jainism, taught by Bhagavan Parshvanath. After passing away of Lord Mahavira there were discussions on bringing together the two major sects; the Digambara (meaning sky clad) sect of Lord Mahavira and the Svetambara (meaning white clad) of Bhagavan Parshvanath

(ii) Taking birth thirteen(13) centuries after Lord Buddha, in what way Lord Mahavira taught differently, as compared to the original teachings of Lord Buddha.

(iii) One great Jaina scholar. Hemchandra, wrote that KIng Chandragupta of the Gupta dynasty, had his (formal) coronation in 312 BCE, i.e.,  315 years after the passing away of lord Mahavira in 527 BCE, but why then are the Jaina scholars keeping silent, when the present day historians have distorted the ancient Indian history. To my knowledge Lord Mahavira wanted te Jains to be strict lovers of Truth.

(iv) Did Lord Mahavira say that he is promulgating any new religion, in comparison with Buddhism. Lord Buddha said "esha dharma Sanatanah", i.e., the tenets of his teachings are of the Sanatana dharma. At the highest level what Lord Buddha taught was Advayavada of the Upanishads in his Mahayana teachings. It is unfortunate that, in course of time, it started appearing as if Lord Budddha taught a different religion.

(v) Lord Buddha said that his teachings may start getting corrupted after about one thousand years, and we have seen the developiment of several different types of Buddhist practices. Did any such thing happen in Jainism.

My 2 cents
Sunil

The Way of Mahavira

On this pious occasion of Mahavir Janma Kalyanak/Mahavir Jayanti 2022, Dr.Mrittyunjoy Guha Majumdar and Jain Samani Dr.Chaitanya Pragya explain to us  the secrets of detachment & liberation.  Jainism's deep relations to other dharmic  practices and its perspective on reality, soul and other metaphysical concepts ,a simple grasp of which leads to betterment of human life.

They dive into the way of Lord Mahavira.

Dear Rajiv and friends,

Sorry. There are a couple of typos. Kindly read the following:

(iii) One great Jaina scholar. Hemchandra, wrote that KIng Chandragupta of the Gupta dynasty, had his (formal) coronation in 312 BCE, i.e.,  315 years after the passing away of lord Mahavira in 527 BCE, but why then are the Jaina scholars keeping silent, when the present day historians have distorted the ancient Indian history. corrected as below:
(iii) One great Jaina scholar. Hemchandra, wrote that KIng Chandragupta of the Gupta dynasty, had his (formal) coronation in 312 BCE, i.e.,  215 years after the passing away of lord Mahavira in 527 BCE, but why then are the Jaina scholars keeping silent, when the present day historians have distorted the ancient Indian history?
