the newsletter below has some suggestions for English teaching - the principles will apply for Kannada, Hindi (Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu) teachers also... pls read and share your comments and suggestions.

Language learning can be made enjoyable and meaningful for students, and teachers should learn new methods for teaching language. Restricting to teaching the text book is not useful... is what language pedagogy tells us..

regards
Guru

Update #7
Dear Guru,
As an English teacher and trainer, there are several questions I love discussing. What can we do to support our learners in the language learning classroom? How can we encourage learners to communicate, increase their fluency and confidence while also developing their range of vocabulary and grammatical accuracy in the sentence structures they use? These are questions I have often discussed with teachers. Here are some key points.

-  The choice of topic is important. If it’s a topic that captures learners’ interest and imagination, you’ve already made a good start.
-  Using language in a context that is familiar for learners is also important. This can be through stories and pictures that are meaningful and easy to relate to.

-  Choosing activities that are fun and include opportunities for personalisation help increase learner engagement. This could be through Total Physical Response (TPR) activities where learners do actions related to sentences the teacher says e.g. Teacher: I am jumping. (All learners start jumping). Later, learners take on the role of the teacher and use the language themselves.

-  Finally, using tasks that help learners notice new language, think about language and use language in interesting and creative ways can be more memorable and meaningful for learners.  Matching, categorising, and personalisation tasks require learners to engage with new words and grammar that help make language learning fun, engaging and memorable.

I’m sure teachers will continue to discuss these questions, share ideas and learn from each other.  That’s what makes teaching such a great profession. I hope you enjoy and learn from the video offerings this month and continue to reflect on your teaching.
