BOOKS ON YOGA, TANTRA AND SADHANA
By Pandit Arun Kumar Sharma
http://www.navelgazing.net/2015/05/books-on-yoga-tantra-and-sadhana-by.html
India has taught the world many things. Amongst them, the belief in nonviolence as a way of life, is supreme. As also the deep faith in detachment as the doorway to liberation. India’s ancient culture has given rise to many religions, philosophies and faith systems. Some have survived the relentless onslaught of time and remain firmly entrenched in the hearts and minds of their followers. Other have been consigned to the footnotes of history.
Esoteric practices too have been handed down from person to person. Many of these have been lost. But some have remained, preserved by seekers who are deeply immersed in the tradition and have endured great hardship in order to keep their tradition alive.
Arun Kumar Sharma of Varanasi was one such person. Author of more than 20 extremely rich books on Indian yoga and tantra, he was a highly educated and erudite Sanskritist with MAs in five streams (Sanskrit, Buddhism, Parapsychology, Archeology and Hindi). He taught at the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, and as visiting faculty at the University of Colombo, and other prestigious universities in the subcontinent. Lated, he worked for the Archeological Department of India, which enabled him to travel to many inaccessible places in the Himalayan region. His quest for the truth of life led him to visit and stay in several places in India, Tibet, Nepal and Egypt. He lived with several yogis and mystics and in search of that something which allowed mortals to become immortal. He spent nearly three years in Tibet where he witnessed paranormal events beyond the imagination of normal humans. He started writing his experiences and knowledge in the form of articles and books from 1949 onwards till his death in 2011.
Pt Sharma was fortunate to learn from Svami Vishuddhananda and became a close personal disciple of Mahamahopadhaya Pandit Gopinatha Kaviraja. Later in life, he gave up all external activities and confined himself to the worship of Goddess Mahakali. He would remain in a state of samaadhi {auto-immersion} for days and experienced several paranormal phenomena. In his books, he relates these with great skill along with his temporal adventures and transcendental experiences.
We are indeed fortunate that we are able to present the entire set of his books for those who wish to know more about mystic ways. Despite the esoteric subject matter, the books are written in a very simple and direct style which grabs and retains the attention of the reader.
Here is the entire set of books. All the books very attractively published and despite being hardcover editions, are very low priced. This is in keeping with the author’s wishes. Sharma ji was keen that his books remain accessible to all.
