I start this thread with a view of any Azureus related problems being posted to one central thread rather than a hodge-podge of individual threads, that more than not ask the same questions.

azureus.aelitis.com/wiki...p/Category:Stubs

With all respect, being able to follow a question through to a conclusion and get an answer for your particular situation can be as much worth as posting links to valuable information. That case then becomes another reference that can be built up and referred to later.

I've had two threads referred to here and/or been deleted, the first had nothing to do with anything in the link (the router had a P2P setting buried in a menu that needed to be disabled as well as the ports forwarded) as well as a second one asking for more information on connection speeds as I couldnt find the sections in Azureus as they were posted in the link.

Cheers

*Edit - If a link is to be posted, maybe use the main wiki page - it looks like the first one is to articles that still need more work? azureus.aelitis.com/wiki...ex.php/Main_Page

The point of the re-direction is for the poster of a Azureus related question to then post his or her problem in this thread, based on the golden rule of posting to an existing thread.

I start this thread with a view of any Azureus related problems being posted to one central thread rather than a hodge-podge of individual threads, that more than not ask the same questions.

The answers to 99.99% of Azureus related questions are contained in the FAQ (link I posted) the remaining small percentile can be obtained by logging onto the Online Help channel via the plugin or IRC. The problem with the router is one that could be dealt with by posting in the DSL Hardware Forum. Any more Azureus related questions?

Perhaps other posters could assist by posting much asked Azureus questions in this thread and then I can provide the answer and also the relevant link, this eventually will become a WIKI entry and be of assistance to the overworked Mods and section Mods.

Perhaps other posters can now start to ask Azureus related questions and then I will endeavour to answer them, with a relevant link.

Can anyone help me with the following Azureus problems (which I'm pretty sure are related to eachother). I'd really appreciate it!

1. I'm on a 512/128 plan, so I've tried to limit my uploads to 13Kbps in options > transfer but it always seems to reset itself. Whenever I check Azureus, I'm usually uploading at around 20 kbps and when I go back to the options, the max upload speed is set to 0 again. Why?

2. I am consistently getting slower speeds than the swarm average. For instance, on the torrent I'm downloading at the moment, the swarm average is at 24.6kbps and I'm at 11.2kbps. Checking the statistics shows that my speeds are very erratic. I have sharp spikes in speed (for example, I'll be downloading at 4kbps, and then all of a sudden it spikes to 20kbps for a few seconds before dropping back to 3 or 4 kbps)

Can anyone please help!?

Thanks so much in advance!

Joel

How to disable ip filters from Azureus

Clear blocked IPs then Tools/Options/IP Filters/ uncheck enable, uncheck save blocked IP across restart and then hit save button bottom left and then restart.

Was Referred to this post by Thor after my thread was deleted. Have gone through all the links and have played around with my settings to try and fix my problem, but have only managed to squeeze an extra 2kbps out of the connection. I'm still getting weak download speeds (2 to 4 kbps), and almost no upload. So does anybody know what's going on? I don't have any NAT or firewall problems and i have a 512 kbps connection. Are you guys sure that No Aussie ISP's throttle P2P? This only started when I changed ISP???

Scrape

A scrape, aka "Tracker Scrape", is a request sent to a tracker. A request is sent, connection to the tracker is established, information is exchanged, then the connection is closed. A scrape is what every BitTorrent client (such as Azureus) does, to any tracker that is hosting a .torrent which is loaded into the client. The request does something like a "wipe" or a "pass" over the tracker, and then the tracker sends information back to the client.

azureus.aelitis.com/wiki/index.php/Scrape

Azureus will never knowingly scrape a tracker more than once every 15 minutes. (It could unknowingly scrape more often if the user restarts Azureus more than once within 15 minutes). If min_request_interval is specified, it won't scrape for the torrents returned until the time specified.

Manual announcing would cause some trackers to popup a message to stop hammering if it was in that 15 minute period or restarting Azureus more than once in that 15 minute period.

Peer Exchange

Peer Exchange (PEX) has been introduced with Azureus 2.3.0.0 to reduce the load on trackers and the Distributed database (also introduced with 2.3.0.0) since peers only need them as an initial source of peers and then only depend on other peers supporting PEX. Of course that doesn't mean they don't report back to the tracker, but Azureus peers only do it at the max-interval thus minimizing the load.

azureus.aelitis.com/wiki...hp/Peer_Exchange

Message Stream Encryption

Note: This is the Message Stream Encryption specification, see Avoid traffic shaping for Azureus specific setup instructions and documentation.

Azureus currently allows its users either to specify fallback support for incoming and outgoing connections seperately when the encryption is enabled or passive support only instead. Specified encryption methods aren't preferences but minimum requirements, for both incoming and outgoing connections, i.e. if a peer doesn't support the minimum (or possibly higher levels in the future) then the connection will can't be established. And Azureus will only offer minimum or higher level methods.

SnubbingPeers

For those who like to strangle their upload.

Peer snubbing occurs when any BitTorrent client fails to send another a promised block of data within a reasonable time frame (usually 60 seconds). It indicates that the peer cannot be trusted to fulfill data requests.

The most likely reason for the offending peer is a misconfigured client. It may be uploading to too many peers without enough upload capacity.

DHT is firewalled.

The DDB needs an open/forwarded UDP port which is the same as the TCP listening port under Tools -> Options -> Connection unless otherwise specified in the Plugin configuration.

If you've somehow lost the connection to the DDB but it was working in the past and you're sure the port is forwarded correctly you can reseed the DDB by following those instructions:

1. go to Tool -> Options -> Plugins -> Distributed DB
2. hit the reseed button and wait a minute, if the usercount goes up (300.000+) and the Status indicator on the bottom is green everything is fine
3. if not, then you can specify the IP and Port of any DDB node (Azureus peer) or dht.aelitis.com and 6881
4. hit the reseed button again and wait

If that procedure still fails the Port isn't unfirewalled/forwarded correctly.
