Andno, there is no hidden ending in Limbo. If you beat the game without dying once you'll get another secret egg (and is required to get 111% in the game, but there's no achievement for that), but otherwise there's no secret ending.
This is ONLY on the PS3/PC or later versions of the game. (I play it on iOS and PC and it does work for this-i am not sure if they added it to the original Xbox version, but you should be able to find out if the "door" is there or not (see below...)
After you have all of the eggs, go to chapter 26, just before the arthropod (the mosquito-insect you snatch a ride on.) Go in the dark past the spot where you get the "Alone in the Dark" achievement. You will see a big metal door with a circle of 10 candles in front of it where each candle represents an egg. Once all are lit the door will open and you can enter the "secret" level.
Actually I asked the developer about if there is a secret ending since the actually ending is disappointing, and the developer said that there is NO secret ending, but the actual ending sets up a second game, because did you notice that before the credits the ladder is fine, but afterwards the ladder is ripped in 2? If you didn't go back and check.
Either that or I broke the universe but I passed the last puzzle by running through, not floating. I was taken to another puzzle. I quit that puzzle and got some juice and when i fired up the game again, i was back at the 'official' last puzzle again. At which point i floated through and it ended.
There is an alternate ending. And i'm pissed that i started to discover it and it didn't save that progress. I haven't found it again. But that it's there? Yes because i started playing it. YOU just haven't found it yet previous answerer. There is also an alternate series of levels. Everybody's found or knows about those. I haven't played them yet but a lot of people have (these people include many youtubers)
The later versions of LIMBO, from Playstation 3/PC iterations and onwards have featured a secret level that can be accessed once you have completed the game and found all 10 of the achievement/trophy related hidden eggs along the way. If you followed the walkthrough above, you will have got them all if you played through, if you are coming in late though, you can find their locations in the collectible guide below.
One thing that you will want to do before we go too much further is to increase the volume on your TV/PC. This is because as we progress, there are multiple hazards in the dark that you will not be able to see, only hear and being able to grasp the idea as to where dangers lie, you can save yourself a lot of frustration.
Looks safe right? Wrong! The platform below has a horizontal machine gun on it that will shoot you if you stand on the platform for too long. As such, you need to run and jump from below the light to the platform below, whilst running out the right and jumping as you land. If you are quick enough, you should grab the ledge above the turret just before it goes off.
Move over to the right and at the end you will find a ladder with a light shining on it. Jump towards this and then walk to the base of the ladder. Wait a second or two before climbing as you will have activated another horizontal turret on the way down and it will kill you if you start to climb right away.
As you drop into the room, run to the centre and crawl down the ledge of the gap in here. There is a large hanging saw that will move from left to right in this area, and hanging from the pit is the only safe spot. Wait for the saw to go over your head, then quickly stand up and jump across the gap. Immediately drop off the other side of the gap here as the saw will come back very quickly. When it goes back to the right, hop up run to the left and climb out of the room.
Run as far as you can to the left, and climb up to a higher platform. From here look into the sparks falling from the closest saw. If you look closely, you should see a platform pass underneath it. We want to jump to this and hang from the end. The platform will move to the right and back continuously, so we want to time our next move. When the platform starts to come back to the left, you want to climb up onto it when you are between the two saws and run to the right hand side of it. Now hang from this ledge. Wait for it to go back to the right again, then when you are past the second saw, stand up and jump across to the higher platform we saw earlier.
Keep moving until you see a flaming tyre above you. Walk out of the passage a short distance and wait for it to drop. Quickly move to the left to avoid being hit and then run after it along the dark passage. As you go, a small flaming rock will come after you as well, but keep running to the right and time a jump so that it passes beneath you, but do not stop as there is another flaming tyre following it! When you reach the gap, jump to the far side.
If you stand back and observe the light for a moment you will see a smaller saw blade that moves back and forth along the ground. Again, you want to pay attention to the noise it makes and also note the speed at which it moves.
When you are ready, drop down to the area with the saw and jump over it and then climb up the ledge on the far side. As you move to the left, there is another light. This will go out as you approach, so as you drop down, listen for the blade and hop over it when you can. There is one more small saw in a third identical pit area, however this time there is no light at all. Use your ears!
Soon after grabbing the egg, a pair of machine guns will start firing down on you from the roof. Unfortunately, they are firing on either side of our character and if we want to survive, we need to remain between the two streams of bullets. But wait, it gets better!
Once you have jumped the two gaps, watch the first gun and you will notice that there are several platforms leading like a large set of stairs to the right. Climb over these and drop down the far side.
Limbo is the third level of The Rift. The map consists of a series of corridors and rooms, populated by numerous powerful enemies. A part of the level is occupied by a water canal that players can swim through, as well as a system of walkways above it. Somewhere within Limbo is the secret portal to the Edge of Oblivion.
1-S: THE WITLESS is the Limbo Layer's secret level, accessed through a secret exit in 1-1: HEART OF THE SUNRISE. The name and content of the level are based on the 2016 puzzle video game The Witness. Progression of the level is linear, with five rooms containing puzzle screens within each room that must be completed in order to enter the following room. Completing the level requires completing a total of 26 puzzles before the level's exit door opens.
After completing the puzzles in the second room, the door to the third room unlocks, and the time of day changes to evening. The third room of the level introduces Pits. They are the opposite of Rings; you must avoid them. This room also introduces bigger grids for each screen.
The fourth room has four puzzles on the left and right sides of the room. The puzzle screens on the left have a 4x4 grid. These puzzles feature every element from before; Boxes, Rings, Pits. The puzzle screens on the right start with a 2x3 grid. New elements are introduced; blue boxes and red boxes -- matching them with an exit of their color is necessary for completion.
After the door to the fifth room unlocks, the time of day changes to night. The fifth room presents Green Colored Boxes and re-introduces White Exit Boxes. The ninth puzzle is in front of the level exit. Accessing it requires completion of the 8 puzzles.
The skip for the final room is achieved by going through the top of the elevator's door.This is possible because the elevator does not have collision on the door decoration, and because of an oversight in map geometry. Performing the skip shows a developer message;
Hiya fellas. So I don't know how big this game is on cohost but I thought I'd give this a shot cause it's been something I've wanted to talk about for a while. Namely I think Limbo is really friggin cool and even though it's not as challenging as some of the later layers I still think more people should talk about it. So let's go
So at its core ULTRAKILL is a game where you fuck up bitches. At the start of the game and throughout Prelude you're given one goal: get down into Hell and drink up all that tasty blood. Prelude exists to show you the ropes of the game and even give you a fun surprise with the Cerberus fight. Pretty clearly this game is based on Dante's Inferno and hits you with the ol' "abandon hope all ye who enter here" as a parting gift before you leave. You're about to enter Hell, and whatever depictions you've got in your head are no doubt pretty grizzly and not very nice.
Prelude sets this expectation pretty well and you'd think it'd all come to a head once you drop down into the first layer of Hell, where the vile landscapes and endless suffering are finally revealed to the player in the form of...
A serene garden, with green rolling hills, marble paths and peaceful music. Here we get to one of my favourite aspects of Limbo: its use of diegetic music. Having diegetic music for our purposes basically means that the characters ingame can also hear whatever music the player is hearing. Think, like, the radio from Portal or something. ULTRAKILL's music usually isn't diegetic but it makes an exception here to complement the themes of Limbo.
To put it bluntly, it's all fake. The trees, grass and landscapes are all manufactured to turn this part of Hell into a sort of "false paradise." The music and chirping birds are literally being played on speakers. Limbo is one of the most claustrophobic areas in the game, as you're constantly boxed in by these holographic walls, in contrast to more "open" layers like Lust and Greed.
Enemies don't spawn in at first but they quickly make themselves known as the peaceful music literally distorts into "A Shattered Illusion," using samples from the prior music and looping and trimming them, almost as if it's "breaking" or something - the song name says it all, really.
