Dear Dr. Singh,
We have a social arm, and was wondering if we could engage these boys (locals; unemployed educated youth) in some local paid part-employment of large scale tree plantation - whether they get involved themselves, or organise the same. We would be able to commit some money to this activity each month for a long duration of time. What would you advise? Who could monitor the right use of the money and the desired output?
There is a separate initiative we are planning in rural-tourism with some people associated with Himvani - but that is sometime away.
Also, another area could be to employ these youth in part-time non-formal teaching - we are doing that at Nada-khand village near Puri, Orrisa; 2 youths - a +2 and a BA - both employed as part-time teachers in the Sri Jagannath Pathshala. But then on second thoughts the education levels in Uttaranchal and Himachal seems to be much much much better than the rest of the country.
