It was astonishing to see Mr Bali attending his "Special Bday" Party as telecasted on Star Plus. I learned that the electricity and TV cables were cutoff in HP.
Is it true?

Going by what I saw on television, I found many loop-holes in the story, which the reporter should have answered. I do not want to comment on the authenticity of the report yet will point out the loopholes:
-- Yes, the video showed some girls around skimpily dressed, but the reporter did not mention how did he come to the conclusion that they were call girls. There are more skimpily girls clad in discos in Delhi and elsewhere. There were no comments from the girls. It was the reporter's claim and not the girls' that they were brought in from Delhi and were paid Rs 50,000.
-- Bali asked the reporter, why he did not show his family - his wife, his daughter and son-in-law? The reporter answered that he does not know his family. One, it cannot be that he does not know his family. Two, was it not the reporter's job to find out who all were there, while he knew every bureaucrat and industrialist. The best answer the reporter could have given was that - his family was not there and he did not see any of his family members. Instead the reporter chose to say that he does not know Bali's family members.
-- The report on television did not reveal the names of the bureaucrats and some industrialists, except that "this is a bureaucrat and this is an industrialist from Baddi. The anchor said that they did not want to malign and drag anybody's name like that so they are not revealing the names. But because Bali was a public figure so they are revealing his name. Does not the rule apply to government officials? Aren't they equally guilty as Bali then? Why should just Bali be crucified if he's done something indecent?
-- Bali was shown patting the bottoms of 'man' jokingly and the anchor called it an indecent behaviour. My argument against is - One he did not hit the bottoms of a woman. Two, we all do in jest with close friends.
-- Well I'm not trying to defend Bali, but just trying to point out loopholes. The reporter said, "Ek Bharatiya hone ke naate, main iss tarah naari ke prati vyavahaar nahin dekh sakta". Well guys I've seen an ex-Tehelka senior guy in Press Club use Ma and Behan gaalis in front of Women colleagues. Just pay a visit to a Press Club one evening and see how these hypocritical pressmen behave. (By the way I'm also a journalist, and sad to say that).
-- The report said -- Shimla, Kangra mein light and cable kaat dee gayi hai. While I tried to enquire around, some did complain about electricity failure while others denied it.
-- While the reporter said that it was a two hours video, but they were just showing a five minutes clip over and over again.
But credence should be given to Bali to come on record and debate it out. He could have chosen to not speak at all.
But, I must say that the "Happy Birthday to you" sound byte before and after the commercial breaks was in poor taste and credence should be given to Virbhadra Singh as well to have come up on television.
But by asking for the resignation of Bali, the CM has just played into the hands of the opposition or the framers (if any). I personally believe that it was a private party and the reporter could not prove that they were call-girls. If the matter is subjudice, let's wait for the verdict. If Bali is proven guilty, we should be happy for the reporter and Star news. However, if the report is not authentic, it would be a sad day for my ilk - the journalists and the media. For cheap TRPs, we can be manipulative and stoop to any levels. Star News enjoys a healthy channel share - only after Aaj Tak and Zee News in Himachal. May be it's the war to be at
No.1. Who knows.
But I'll just conclude by saying that Hope the reporter was right. Else it'll be sad for all of us that Himachal which had been untouched by this TRP war has too caught up. More so, as we at HimVani intend to have stakes in the media field. And we hope to play it with scruples and not as a mere game.

Surender

We all know what Star News reported, Tribune informs us that Mr Aluwalia (Md Tourism) was at the party. Some local newspapers reported about the cut off of power. One must understand that Mr Bali is essentially credited to bring in culture of goondaism in HP Politics. He started in 80s as small time thekedar and he would reach to Offices on the day of opening of tenders and if his Tender was not selected, his `men' would torn off all other tenders, beat up the officers and when the police complaints were loded, the politicians would get him free. He survived through the rules of both the parties - Congress and BJP, ultimately he sided with Congress. So getting some women to dance on his BD party is nothing of newsworthiness as far as I am concerned, because you can not expect anything different than this. There were much worst womenizers in HP ministry (belonging to both the parties) but they use to do it discretely, Bali done it openly because Globlization has changed the values, not of only of people but also of politicians/rulers.LoveSubhash Mendhapurkar

I am not sure about how true is this incidence but 1 thing is sure
that a bunch of ministers and admin system is highly irresponsible
towards the society. A day before when the news flashed on Star News
thr was a news in one of the newspapers that how in mandi interviews
for angawadies were to be held for women at 10.00 am but were
delayed till 3.30. The reason being that the SDM who had to conduct
the interviews was on duty with the CM at the B,day celebrations of
MR. Bali. This makes me believe that sting operation to a great
extent.

Hi all
I've put up an article on HimVani today how Bali was on the wrong side
of media and how he could have averted all this:

Hi Surender ji,
Reg. scruples in media, what you say is absolutely true but the
biggest offenders are some of the top media organizations. May the
higher force be with you, sir.
*********
Hi Subhash,
In the below quoted post of yours, couple of things you wrote caught
my eye.
a)Arun Shourie being RSS activist.
b)Shourie could not "digest the the fact that a Muslium[sic] has
become C.M. of Maharastra".
Without any proofs, a) and b) can be considered as biased and specious
accusations. I am not saying that you are incorrect/correct, I just
want to keep the answers, if I get any, for my record.
More later.
Namaste!

Subhash ji,
1. If Mr Shourie's connections with RSS (original) are so well known,
then pointing me towards one should not be that difficult? I tried
searching on the internet but came up empty.
2. Quite true, I was a newborn ('81) but have access to the relevant
information.
3. Problem with inferences is that they can be countered by anyone who
is capable to when the inferences are not backed by facts but by
propaganda. Logically, it is quite absurd that you can deduce this
much when you are unable to prove even the first point(#1). Lets have
the facts and then, let everybody make up his mind.
More later.
Namaste!

Dear Vikas,
Yes, you may be right when you search on Internet for information, largely
you get the information that is supplied by the informer. can you find out
about Shri Sudhirendra Kulkarni who was a speech writer for Shri Atal Bihari
Bajpai what he was during his youth and early days of his carier. I would be
surprised if the Internet tells you that he was a puckka member of Left
youth movement.
Shourrie's connections with BJP are atleast known to you - he was Minister
in NDA Ministry. The point is as you say, inferences are dangerous, but when
one has seen the person long enough, one draws these inferences. The freedom
to accept them or not is upto us and I respect your freedom not to accept my
inference.
The point which was discussed was how journalist destroy the carrier of
politicians without being accountable - like judiciary, the media is also
becoming unaccountable and that is dangerous for democracy. There are large
instances where the Media has played a very positive and proactive role but
there are also equally large instances where media has played havoc.
Entering some one's personal parties and viedographing it, for me is a
criminal act and media shall never be made accountable for this and that is
tragedy.
Love
Subhash Mendhapurkar
Unfortunately, it has become fashionable these days to bash anyone who says anything with any cultural or religious inclinations or tinge of Hinduism. It is fashionable and upmarket to call someone an RSS goon.
In a recent interview, Karan Singh, claimed that he was dropped from presidential candidate because he wears an "Om Namah Shivay" bracelet and the Leftists could not digest this.
Arun Shorie is a hard-core nationalist and calls a spade a spade. He does not shy away from calling 'vote bank politics' just that, or the pointing out bogey of pseudo-secularism. He freely points out objectionable verses in the Quran which unfortunately are misinterpreted and used for poisoning the mindset of muslims worldwide. He does not shy away from pointing out that is it because of the Hindu ethos and core philosophy of "God is ONE; and there are many way to reach HER", unlike almost all major religions in the world, who claim "proprietorship and first right to ownership on the REAL/TRUE GOD" (who is also male, for some reason). Arun Shorie however, does not back the unscientific RSS propaganda about Saraswati, etc.
Since, not many other people or organisations in the country like the RSS, who dare to talk straight in matters of Hinduism, or even the fundamentalism in Islam, I guess he had no choice but to work with them.
