Hi All,

I volunteer for couple of organizations (Sewa International or Sewa Bharati in India) that are involve in volunteer activities in many parts of the world (mainly in India). These organization have volunteers who are working selflessly in different parts of the world. But we have hardly a few volunteers who can develop the website for our work. In simple words, we do not have enough volunteers who can develop the websites for us.

As per BBC, Sewa Bharti is second largest organization in the world after Red Cross with over 70000 live projects.

If anyone of you who knows web development and wants to be a volunteer (no salary)  for this organisation, please send a mail to me at swadeshkatoch@yahoo.com. You will have to design and develop website in your spare time.

Regards
Swadesh Katoch

It was astonishing to see Mr Bali attending his "Special Bday" Party as telecasted on Star Plus. I learned that the electricity and TV cables were cutoff in HP.

Is it true?

Can anyone update the group if this news is True or just fabricated.

Going by what I saw on television, I found many loop-holes in the story, which the reporter should have answered. I do not want to comment on the authenticity of the report yet will point out the loopholes:

-- Yes, the video showed some girls around skimpily dressed, but the reporter did not mention how did he come to the conclusion that they were call girls. There are more skimpily girls clad in discos in Delhi and elsewhere. There were no comments from the girls. It was the reporter's claim and not the girls' that they were brought in from Delhi and were paid Rs 50,000.

-- Bali asked the reporter, why he did not show his family - his wife, his daughter and son-in-law? The reporter answered that he does not know his family. One, it cannot be that he does not know his family. Two, was it not the reporter's job to find out who all were there, while he knew every bureaucrat and industrialist. The best answer the reporter could have given was that - his family was not there and he did not see any of his family members. Instead the reporter chose to say that he does not know Bali's family members.

-- The report on television did not reveal the names of the bureaucrats and some industrialists, except that "this is a bureaucrat and this is an industrialist from Baddi. The anchor said that they did not want to malign and drag anybody's name like that so they are not revealing the names. But because Bali was a public figure so they are revealing his name. Does not the rule apply to government officials? Aren't they equally guilty as Bali then? Why should just Bali be crucified if he's done something indecent?

-- Bali was shown patting the bottoms of 'man' jokingly and the anchor called it an indecent behaviour. My argument against is - One he did not hit the bottoms of a woman. Two, we all do in jest with close friends.

-- Well I'm not trying to defend Bali, but just trying to point out loopholes. The reporter said, "Ek Bharatiya hone ke naate, main iss tarah naari ke prati vyavahaar nahin dekh sakta". Well guys I've seen an ex-Tehelka senior guy in Press Club use Ma and Behan gaalis in front of Women colleagues. Just pay a visit to a Press Club one evening and see how these hypocritical pressmen behave. (By the way I'm also a journalist, and sad to say that).

-- The report said -- Shimla, Kangra mein light and cable kaat dee gayi hai. While I tried to enquire around, some did complain about electricity failure while others denied it.

-- While the reporter said that it was a two hours video, but they were just showing a five minutes clip over and over again.

But credence should be given to Bali to come on record and debate it out. He could have chosen to not speak at all.

But, I must say that the "Happy Birthday to you" sound byte before and after the commercial breaks was in poor taste and credence should be given to Virbhadra Singh as well to have come up on television.

But by asking for the resignation of Bali, the CM has just played into the hands of the opposition or the framers (if any). I personally believe that it was a private party and the reporter could not prove that they were call-girls. If the matter is subjudice, let's wait for the verdict. If Bali is proven guilty, we should be happy for the reporter and Star news. However, if the report is not authentic, it would be a sad day for my ilk - the journalists and the media. For cheap TRPs, we can be manipulative and stoop to any levels. Star News enjoys a healthy channel share - only after Aaj Tak and Zee News in Himachal. May be it's the war to be at No.1. Who knows.

But I'll just conclude by saying that Hope the reporter was right. Else it'll be sad for all of us that Himachal which had been untouched by this TRP war has too caught up. More so, as we at HimVani intend to have stakes in the media field. And we hope to play it with scruples and not as a mere game.

Regards,
Surender

We all know what Star News  reported, Tribune informs us that Mr Aluwalia (Md Tourism) was at the party. Some local newspapers reported about the cut off of power.
One must understand that Mr Bali is essentially credited to bring in culture of goondaism in HP Politics. He started in 80s as small time thekedar and he would reach to Offices on the day of opening of tenders and if his Tender was not selected, his `men' would torn off all other tenders, beat up the officers and when the police complaints were loded, the politicians would get him free. He survived through the rules of both the parties - Congress and BJP, ultimately he sided with Congress. So getting some women to dance on his BD party is nothing of newsworthiness as far as I am concerned, because you can not expect anything different than this.
There were much worst womenizers in HP ministry (belonging to both the parties) but they use to do it discretely, Bali done it openly because Globlization has changed the values, not of only of people but also of politicians/rulers.

Call it globalization or socialising perhaps Bali is trying to prove his worth by induling in such parties.
Remember, Mumbai has banned Bar girls so this not so honest man is deeply hurt; he wants to make sure that
atleast someone is out there for them and ready to uplift their cause by organising such parties.

Perhaps, he might have invited the entire cabinet but Star news blew it up. phew!! others missed it, they must be very angry with Star. Bali is a champion minister who won't fight for their cause he would try to make it as ugly as he can.

I am not sure about how true is this incidence but 1 thing is sure
that a bunch of ministers and admin system is highly irresponsible
towards the society. A day before when the news flashed on Star News
thr was a news in one of the newspapers that how in mandi interviews
for angawadies were to be held for women at 10.00 am but were
delayed till 3.30. The reason being that the SDM who had to conduct
the interviews was on duty with the CM at the B,day celebrations of
MR. Bali. This makes me believe that sting operation to a great
extent.

all said and done, politicians/rulers are not oblivion to the society , they have arisen out
of the people , they are part and parcel of it...they reflect the public sentiment as they say-;)
A man on the street may have his way but not the politician that is double standards bro,
he may just be missing the fun we are used to here..don't we go to the strip/nude bars and clubs why make hue and cry over it...the chap just paid the money to the professional services he got he wasn't forcing anyone  or doing something illegal......some may say immoral well that's a completely different argument then which have different connotations to
you and me....Immorality can do better without  its custodians like us ..let's go on soul searching...first...

I have seen the whole story on the Star News. I do not see any chance for the news to be fabricated. What has disappointed us Himachalis the most is that our politicians are bringing the culture of UP and Bihar Politicians to the  simple state now.

Thanks to these newsvalas, this kind of sting operations are important to show the real picture of these politicians to the public.

I fully agree with Surender for pointing out the `problematic' areas in the B-day party. It has also shown how much actually the Star TV res[pects the women, when they call them `call girls'- the whole episode is a sad reflection on competativeness that has come in electronic media to raise TRP. If one remembers the discussion on `accountability of media' which was held after the episode of MPs asking money for raising questions in Parliament, Shri Suresh Chandel pointed out that neither there was enough evidence for he asking for money or taking one, and still his name has been framed. Givenm the state of our Judiciary system, if one goes on filing cases against the Reporters, it takes longtime (old hats may remember Antulaye case- in which great (?) Arun Shorrie made so much noise for taking donation through cheques - not cash- by Antualye. In ultimate analysis, Antulay was proved right, but damage that caused to his political carrier was unrepairable, later on it turned out that Arun Shorrie being a RSS activist never could digest the fact that a Muslium has become Chief Minister of Maharastra.) to sort out.
I have no respect for Mr bali as I have pointed out his goondaism in HP politics, but the principle remains: what right one has to pip in my private life?
As far as BJP's propoganda is concerned, no comments is best one as everyone around knows how hypocratical Mr PKD sounds when he makes noise on this.

Dear Meesha Tandon

Here is the answer to your query, it is the same bridge that Sri Rama had created in order to attach Sri lanka, But in spite of that, it is the evident to our ancestral history also the proof that all our Vedas or Holly script are real time based, the local government of that state has decided to break or destroy just for the sake of easiness for the transporting, not even that, this area is very rich in bio-diversity as in Coral reef those has international reputation and are unique in itself, will also be destroyed with the Bridge destruction.

Government says, now if someone has to go to eastern ghat from western ghat then they had to reach by having a round to sri-Lanka, which is very much expensive and time consuming too.

By destroying this bridge, our ship would easily be navigated as in current phase here water is too shallow to cross.

That is the main reason why everyone is after in protection to save that bridge.

for more detail please go through the Link given below this link would show you the picture of the very bridge.

Here just to tell you as your are knew to this forum, here we have to think and take initiative only for the development and improvement for Himachal Pradesh, please do not make it general plate-form by asking such type of questions, should you need such questions to be handled then can ask to personally not in this platform.

Hi Meesha,

As per Hindu belief, during Ramayan era,  Vanar Sena constructed a bridge in the sea so that Ram's army can cross the sea to save Sita who was abducted by Ravana in Sri Lanka. They called this bridge Ram Setu.

There are crores of people in India and other parts of the world (including many historians)  who believe in Ramayana. It means these people believe Lord Rama really constructed a bridge between India and Sri Lanka. These people got a boost to their belief when few years back NASA released some Satellite pictures that show a bridge between India and Sri Lanka.  After analyzing these pictures, they claimed this bridge was constructed thousand of years back exactly as per our Ramayana.

There are few ministers in UPA government who do not believe in all this.

Right now, when any ship goes from Mumbai to Calcutta, then they have to take a long route through Sri-Lanka. These ships can not cross through Madras because the sea is not that deep there. So India govt. and Ship companies has to spend more money on fuel and waste more time to cross through Sri Lanka. Therefore, UPA govt. has started a project to cut the land deep under water (Ram Setu) to make way for these ships.

Advantage of these projects:
1) it will take less time to travel from Mumbai to Calcutta.
2) All these ship companies will save money in fuel.

Disadvantage of this project:
1) There are crores of people in India and outside world who firmly believe in Ramayana and there are religious sentiments involve in this projects. A lot of organization in India are already protesting against this project in india. All the Swamis and Sadhus are also protesting for the same cause. So all the people are requesting not to destroy Ram Setu considering religious sentiments of the people.

2) Destroying this bridge (big mountain inside deep water) is not good for environment. This will cause more Tsunami in South India. It was because of this bridge that Tsunami did less distruction in Kerala during Tsunami 3-4 years back.

3) A lot of people and different organizations  in the world  believe by destroying this Ram Setu, UPA govt. is acting like Taliban govt. in Afganistan who destroyed  Budha statues  6-7 years back.

4) After this project, All the ships (including Naval ships of different countries like USA, Russia, China, Pakistan etc..) will cross through Madras. This is a direct security threat to India.

5) There are a lot of Historians  who believe UPA govt. should not destroy it as it is a historic site.

Solution:
Project team had suggested three route to construct this canal  project (Project Samudaran) .  If UPA govt. go with other two projects then UPA govt. can construct the canal without destroying the Ram Setu. UPA govt. is reluctant to go with these options.

you see , many of his upcoming movies have some of their portions shot in himachal, that would have contributed to tourism in our state , more bucks for the govt and more development ,with that in jeopardy since those may never see light of the day-;)
sorry for extrapolation but that does have it's impact;)
if you can have something like that on 'sethusamudram'...we all are ur bunnies...

Hi Surender ji,

Reg. scruples in media, what you say is absolutely true but the
biggest offenders are some of the top media organizations. May the
higher force be with you, sir.

*********
Hi Subhash,
In the below quoted post of yours, couple of things you wrote caught
my eye.

a)Arun Shourie being RSS activist.
b)Shourie could not "digest the the fact that a Muslium[sic] has
become C.M. of Maharastra".

Without any proofs, a) and b) can be considered as biased and specious
accusations. I am not saying that you are incorrect/correct, I just
want to keep the answers, if I get any, for my record.

More later.

Namaste!
vikas

Dear
Arun Shorie's connections with RSS/BJP are well known. I don't think there is any arguments on this.
As far as my second contention was my personal inference that I have drwan from the whole episode, many of the younger generation may not even remember the episod, but during 80s, it was the most hot story and the way Indian Express carried the story had created an impression that there was something more than meets the eyes.
I think, based on certain facts, one has a freedom to draw inferences.

Subhash ji,

1. If Mr Shourie's connections with RSS (original) are so well known,
then pointing me towards one should not be that difficult? I tried
searching on the internet but came up empty.

2. Quite true, I was a newborn ('81) but have access to the relevant
information.

3. Problem with inferences is that they can be countered by anyone who
is capable to when the inferences are not backed by facts but by
propaganda. Logically, it is quite absurd that you can deduce this
much when you are unable to prove even the first point(#1). Lets have
the facts and then, let everybody make up his mind.

More later.

Dear Vikas,
Yes, you may be right when you search on Internet for information, largely
you get the information that is supplied by the informer. can you find out
about Shri Sudhirendra Kulkarni who was a speech writer for Shri Atal Bihari
Bajpai what he was during his youth and early days of his carier. I would be
surprised if the Internet tells you that he was a puckka member of Left
youth movement.
Shourrie's connections with BJP are atleast known to you - he was Minister
in NDA Ministry. The point is as you say, inferences are dangerous, but when
one has seen the person long enough, one draws these inferences. The freedom
to accept them or not is upto us and I respect your freedom not to accept my
inference.
The point which was discussed was how journalist destroy the carrier of
politicians without being accountable - like judiciary, the media is also
becoming unaccountable and that is dangerous for democracy. There are large
instances where the Media has played a very positive and proactive role but
there are also equally large instances where media has played havoc.
Entering some one's personal parties and viedographing it, for me is a
criminal act and media shall never be made accountable for this and that is
tragedy.
Love
Subhash Mendhapurkar

Unfortunately, it has become fashionable these days to bash anyone who says anything with any cultural or religious inclinations or tinge of Hinduism. It is fashionable and upmarket to call someone an RSS goon.

In a recent interview, Karan Singh, claimed that he was dropped from presidential candidate because he wears an "Om Namah Shivay" bracelet and the Leftists could not digest this.

Arun Shorie is a hard-core nationalist and calls a spade a spade. He does not shy away from calling 'vote bank politics' just that, or the pointing out bogey of pseudo-secularism. He freely points out objectionable verses in the Quran which unfortunately are misinterpreted and used for poisoning the mindset of muslims worldwide. He does not shy away from pointing out that is it because of the Hindu ethos and core philosophy of "God is ONE; and there are many way to reach HER", unlike almost all major religions in the world, who claim "proprietorship and first right to ownership on the REAL/TRUE GOD" (who is also male, for some reason). Arun Shorie however, does not back the unscientific RSS propaganda about Saraswati, etc.

Since, not many other people or organisations in the country like the RSS, who dare to talk straight in matters of Hinduism, or even the fundamentalism in Islam, I guess he had no choice but to work with them.

My two cents on this "touchy" topic.

Thanks,
Rahu;
