Hello BookSense Customers,

HIMS is pleased to announce the availability of patch firmware for the BookSense v3.0
**Note: This upgrade is valid for the Standard and XT models.

This patch fixes the following issues:

1.       Fixed problems opening and reading some PDF files.
2.       Fixed problems changing WQ setting during music playback.
3.       Fixed problems playing some DAISY content: Ex. “The Bourne Imperative”.
4.       Fixed problems searching text for upper case or mixed case text.
5.       Changed the Help message for the Time and Date key to remove IVR.
6.       Changed the HELP message for number 8 to add Text search capability.
7.       Changed the Alarm function so that content does not auto playback after alarm duration.
8.       Fixed problems recognizing most high capacity SD cards, specifically with Standard models on power on.

Use the following instructions to upgrade your BookSense Standard:

1.       Download the zip file containing the firmware from the link above to your PC.
2.       Extract the firmware file on your PC; please be sure it contains 1 file with a .bin extension
3.       Copy the file from your PC and paste it into the root of your SD card.
*Please make sure the 1 .bin file is placed in the root of your SD card.
4.       Insert the SD card into the BookSense.
5.       Connect the AC adapter to the BookSense.
6.       Power on the BookSense.
7.       Press the MENU button and navigate to “Advance Options” using the up or down arrow.
8.       Press the RIGHT arrow to open the “Advanced Options”; you are placed on the “Upgrade Firmware” option.
9.       Press the RIGHT arrow. You are asked “Do you want to Upgrade?” Yes.
10.   Press the MENU or the OK button and the system will reboot and start upgrading.
* When the upgrade is complete, please check your system information to ensure that you are running firmware v3.0

Use the following instructions to upgrade your BookSense XT:

***Note: For those running v2.1 or lower, you will need to reformat your flash disk after completing this upgrade. Please back up the data on your flash disk before performing the upgrade. This will not affect NLS, Learning Ally or Serotek license keys as they are placed in a hidden area of the flash disk.

However, the data on your flash disk may be affected by the upgrade, and will be deleted with the reformat. Again, this applies only to those running v2.1 or lower.

For all XT upgraders running v2.1 or lower, please note the following:

1.       The Upgrade procedure must be performed twice—this is not a misprint. Once the first upgrade is complete, you must repeat the upgrade process again for the firmware to install fully.
2.       The first upgrade will take about 2 minutes. The second upgrade will take longer, perhaps 5 minutes or more. When the upgrade is complete, the BookSense XT will restart. So please do not press the reset button nor disconnect the AC adapter during the upgrade process.

Please follow the instructions to upgrade your BookSense XT:

1.       Download the zip file containing the firmware from the link above to you PC.
2.       Extract the firmware file on your PC; please be sure it contains 5 things: a folder and 4 files.
3.       Copy the 5 things (folder and 4 files) from your PC and paste them into the root of your SD card.
4.       Insert the SD card into the BookSense XT.
5.       Connect the AC adapter to the BookSense XT.
6.       Power on the BookSense XT.
7.       Press the MENU button and navigate to “Advanced Options” using the up or down arrow.
11.   When the first upgrade is complete, repeat the above steps #7-10. Please note: The Book Sense will inform you that you are already running the firmware found on the SD card and ask if you wish to upgrade anyway. Press the OK key to continue with the upgrade.
12.   For BookSense XT users upgrading from v2.3, you’re done. For the XT users upgrading from v2.1 or lower, when the first and second upgrades are complete, you must format the flash disk. To do this, press the MENU key and navigate to “Global Options” using the up or down arrow keys.
13.   Press the RIGHT arrow to open, use the up or down arrow to navigate to “Format Storage Device”.
14.   You are placed on the “Format Flash disk” option. Press the MENU or OK key.
15.   You are prompted that this will erase all data, and asked if you are sure. Press the OK key for each prompt. BookSense announces, “Formatting Flash disk”. The format takes about 10 seconds.

**When the upgrade is complete, please check your system information to ensure that you are running firmware v3.0

Hello,

There appears to be an issue with the links not downloading the update files correctly.  I have copied the files in to dropbox as a temporary workaround.

Please use the following links, until we can update them for our website and send them to you.
