HIMS is pleased to release another Braille EDGE 40 update.  In this release, we bring users the following additions and fixes:

1. Unified English Braille is now available under the  Braille Table option when operating Braille EDGE in either US or UK English. While users have been able to use UEB in the past with a screen reader, now UEB is available when using the EDGE as a standalone device.
2. Appointments in the Scheduler are now automatically backed up to the SD card when one is inserted.
3. Users can now enter a special "Typing Mode" that prevents them from entering commands accidentally as they type. When in Typing Mode, if the user presses a key combination like "Space-dot-4", the Space and dot 4 are entered separately rather than as a key combination.

·         Typing mode on/off toggle: F4-K.

4. Braille EDGE now offers a test/learn mode.

·         To start Test Mode, from anywhere on the unit, press "Backspace-space-Enter-T".
·         Each dot raises and lowers individually 1 by 1 until the user stops the process.
·         Pause/resume the test by pressing "Space".
·         When in paused status, press each key to read a description of its function. Press a cursor router to raise all the dots in the corresponding cell.
·         Press "Space-Z" to exit Test Mode and return to normal operation.

The upgrade can be downloaded here: http://hims-inc.com/download/BrailleEDGE40_151210.zip

Please follow the below instructions to complete and install the upgrade:

·         Download the ZIP file from the link above.
·         Extract the ZIP file. User should see a single .bin file.
·         Copy this .bin file to the root of a SD card.
·         Insert the SD card into the Braille EDGE 40.
·         Hold down F8 while pressing the reset button. (NOTE: It is NOT necessary to hold down reset.)
·         Continue holding F8 until the Braille EDGE speaks, "Start system update".
·         The machine plays progress sounds to indicate that something is in fact happening.
·         The machine should say, "Update Success" and then restart itself after 10 seconds.

Check that the machine is running version 1.1, build 20151210:

·         From the Main Menu, use the SPACEBAR repeatedly until you get to "Information".
·         Press ENTER to open this screen.
·         Press SPACE-DOT 4 twice. This will display the version and build you are running.

We hope you find this update useful. If you have questions, please feel free to contact our Tech Support Team at (512) 837-2000 and press option 2 for Tech Support.
