3. How is the NMAT-2012 designed?
NMAT-2012, has three sections – Language skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. The three sections of NMAT-2012 are individually timed and candidates need to answer the sections and review the questions of that section within the allotted section time. Once the candidate moves out of a section, there is no possibility of returning to that section for attempting or reviewing the questions.
Section | No. of Items (questions) | Allotted time |
---|---|---|
Language Skills | 32 | 22 mins |
Quantitative Skills | 48 | 60 mins |
Logical Reasoning | 40 | 38 mins |
If a candidate chooses to answer NMAT-2012 in the sequence – Logical reasoning, followed by Language Skills and then Quantitative Skills, the candidate should spend the allotted section time of 38 mins in answering and reviewing the Logical Reasoning Section. Once a candidate moves out of one section because of section time getting over or candidates themselves choosing to move to the next section; there is no possibility of coming back to the previous section, Logical Reasoning in this case.
Candidates are advised to take NMAT-2012 as a collection of “three individually timed” sections tests and they need to perform their best in each of the three sections in the given section time. Candidates should also understand that balance time of one section doesn’t get added onto the next section. So, candidates should be fully sure of themselves before moving on to the next section.

Yes, you can review the sections of NMAT-2012, each section within the allotted section time. Hence, you need to complete (answering and reviewing) each of the three sections in their respective allotted time limits.
5. In case I complete answering and reviewing a section before the allotted section time completion, does the balance time get added to the next section?
No, in NMAT-2012, you cannot add balance time of one section to the other. In case you complete answering and reviewing a section before the allotted section time gets over, you may choose either to revise the section or move to the next section, but the balance time cannot be added on to the next section timing.

7. What is the advantage of having a 10 week long window to test?
NMIMS wishes to assess a candidate’s best performance and at the same time reduce the stress associated with a single sitting exam or exam offered in a short time window. The longer test window provides adequate time to the candidates to take the test when they are best prepared and avoid conflicts with other exams. The candidates will also get the convenience to reschedule the test in case of any exigency. The longer window also provides the candidate with the opportunity to retake the test (maximum 3 attempts) in case they feel that their performance was impaired on the test day for any reason or if they feel they can improve their performance in retake attempt.
8. What type of CBT will the NMAT-2012 be?
The NMAT-2012 is a computer-delivered test where each candidate gets a randomly generated exam from a pool of questions. The number of questions, difficulty levels and the time limit for each of the sections is predetermined and, under normal administration conditions, are the same regardless of when and where the test is administered. The test is non-adaptive in which the computer will display questions one at a time. In NMAT 2012, candidates can choose the order of three test sections. Each section has an allotted section time and the candidate has to complete the section including answering and reviewing the questions in the given section time limit.

Percentile scores - The percentile rank or score shows how a candidate scored when compared to all other candidates who took the exam (e.g. all candidates who gave the NMAT-2012). For example, if a candidate is said to be at the 75th percentile, the candidate scored better than 75% of the candidates who took the NMAT-2012.
