Dear Friends,

I had been reading a lot, messages posted by members about climbing
in
Indian Himalayas and problems occuring to them.
Air Tickets: if you make a well planned vocation and get your self
booked well in advance- you can get cheaper ticket. Moreover from
whom
to buy is another big advantage- do some R&D and you will know from
where you can get a round trip from US to India in max. 1100US$

Climbing Fee: Yes- there is US$ 2000 climbing fee for climbing a good
technical peak-usually above 6000m. This is also correct that Indian
Govt. will take this fee and do only paper work- it means that they
inform Indian Army about you and your intended stay in defense
senitive area BUT they will not do any help, information or rescue.
This is as hard as this !!
BUT...BUT..

You can always try 'open peaks' with good technical routes. It means
in same budget you can climb 2/3 peaks.

Agencies and references: On internet you will search through
google/yahoo and get to most top results. Usually these sites are
made
by business people who pay good money to computer IT firms to make
and
launch a good, well built site. They pay to yahoo and other search
engines and in marley 400/500 US$ they get's through !
Now they do not have any idea about climbing, climb in mountain in
general. Most probabaly person signing your email- could have not
seen
'Himalayas'.

You pay good money and they sell you to small local agencies who had
old porters now converted into guides and rest you know.....

Now what to do? It is best to have telephone conversation with people
you are dealing with. As you are also experienced about climbing and
trekking-in the conversation you can judge-if you are talking with
rt.
people or not !!
