Peter –
It is my experience working for many years with TriMet’s park & ride lots, that folks will only walk so far to find free parking. I think it is appropriate for your residents to be alert to the consequences of a would-be parking program on the flatlands, but your neighborhood (unfortunately) is not near a major transit route and parkers would have to walk uphill to get to their cars. I’d guess only the most hardy would park in the Hillside area.
Be careful what you ask for – as I’d guess your neighbors don’t want to have to pay into a permit program.
Best -
Phil
Dustin, I assume you're aware of the meeting below. For those copied you may wish to attend.
My primary concern at this time is the Northwest Parking Plan proposed below the hill blankets permit parking though most of the NWDA. Commuters without parking permits will try to find a free spot to park so they can walk to work. With all our stairs up and down the hill Hillside Neighborhood will be a likely target for parking poachers.
Bottom Line - free street parking will be a premium. This adjustment will only make it worse. Having said that I think your letter was perfect!
FYI, Phil we'll be sending a formal letter to the city expressing Hillside's concern over the NW parking plan soon. Peter.
