Hillside Eco Brigade

We are a group of Hillside (Medford, MA) neighbors who are committed to removing invasive species, like black swallow-wort, from our neighborhood.

Black swallow-wort is an invasive weed that overtakes and suppresses other vegetation, reducing species diversity and wildlife habitat. Due to a similarity to milkweed, black swallow-wort attracts monarch butterflies which lay their eggs on the leaves. However, the leaves are toxic to the caterpillars and are detrimental to the monarch butterfly population.

We plan to meet every Sunday at 9am for coffee, community, and neighborhood swallow-wort removal!
