Subject: School Board Race
I just spent three more hours at the County Courthouse taking notes on the records of campaign financial disclosures and political action committees ( PACs ).The race for the Tuscaloosa School Board may come down to whether voters are influenced by the amount of money spent on campaigning. In May the form for Students for Good Government municipal PAC was filed at the Courthouse. Its purpose was "to support candidates promoting efficient and impactful local government." Matt Calderone was the PAC's Chairperson and Cason Kirby was its Treasurer. It never had much financial backing.Calderone was unopposed for the District 3 Council seat and Kirby is running for the School Board for District 4.The Educate Tuscaloosa PAC ( ET PAC ) was established on April 29, 2013 to support candidates for the Tuscaloosa Board of Education. It has had over $60,000 in cash contributions. It's Chairperson is Michael Echols. The Educate Tuscaloosa PAC has contributed to three candidates running for the school board. Cason Kirby ( D4 ) whose campaign chest was $15,600 on July 26 derived $14,200 of his contributions from the ET PAC. John Lollar ( D6 ) who had $10,000 in cash contributions in July received $9000 from ET PAC. Renwick Jones ( D7 ) had $15,020 in July. He received contributions of $9000 and $5200 from ET PAC.All three also received $1000 from the Decatur based Nucor PAC and none or very little other contributions.Although PACs are required to file information at the County Courthouse none there knew where the information on Nucor PAC, along with T-Town PAC II, Pride PAC II or TUSCO PAC ( which all have given to multiple municipal candidates ). Paperwork existed for the Students for Good Government PAC, the Educate Tuscaloosa PAC and the Tuscaloosa United for Better Education PAC. Only the Educate Tuscaloosa PAC of all the education PACs had more than $5500 though.None of the candidates for School Board who are running against the Educate Tuscaloosa candidates have anywhere near their funding.

I just called the Secretary of State's office and have accessed NUCOR PAC, T-Town PAC II and PRIDE PAC II.Unfortunately I can only download the most recent filing so I don't have the list of who contributed any earlier than June. Here are who the PAC's contributed to:
