Gary Limmroth, Robert Parsons and Joan Barth expressed their satisfaction over the way The Shoppes had been developed with consolation and input from nearby neighbors.Although I've yet to see it reported in the News ( there will doubtlessly be an article about the new Hilton Home 2 Suites later ), the ZBA also approved a petition for a variance for the 2600 University Boulevard block so that an extended stay motel which was prohibited in the Downtown Riverfront Overlay District. I commented that this was just "adding insult to injury" after Sealy had been allowed to build its massive residential development next to Capitol Park. Joan Barth, Kelly Fitts, Tim Higgins and others also opposed the petition being granted. John McConnell said that the "one good thing that has come out of all of this is that the City is going to work on implementing the Greater Downtown Plan." He later said that at the Projects Committee meeting that the GDP would be on its agenda.By Jason Morton
