Help Kairos family, I hope your summer is going well. I have a few things that I need to run by you guys and I'll try to cover most of them in this email.

First a few praises. In case some have not heard yet, Alan Davis has secured a tax exempt status for Kairos of Alabama which in turn should save us a whole bunch of money (praise God and thank you Alan) We should all be receiving instructions soon from our AC's as to how to properly use our new status and also learn about the responsibility that comes with it.

Teann has been working on receiving funds for Kairos of Alabama for lost revenue stream that we usually receive from churches due to the BP oil spill. We have been notified that all paper work has been properly filed and we are now waiting on approval for payment. It may take several months but it could mean an extra $30,000 for Kairos.

Below you'll see a picture of yours truly and the Bibb County crew that was taken last week as we served lunch to the wardens and deputy wardens of the northern district of Alabama. I can assure you guys that we are going to get a lot of mileage from this little endeavor. Thanks guys.

Also our new website
http://www.kairos-al.org/  for Kairos of Alabama is up and running. It's not complete yet but we'll have all the changes made real soon. Our goal is to make this an informative, easy to navigate website that will equip us with resources while at the same time reaching out to a new generation of Kairos volunteers.

Sad news  :-(  You guys please be in prayer for our Saint Clair crew. As many of you are aware the warden there is not in love with Kairos and has suspended for the time being any Kairos weekends. At this point he is allowing prayer and share but our future there is questionable. I hope all that steak, chicken and shrimp we served him will soften his heart.

My last piece of business is a request for approval from you guys for a weekend leader for Draper. As some of you know already, Draper has been struggling and I along with others are working with them to make the changes necessary to keep a Kairos presence in Draper. Their approved leader Steve Cook has recently stepped down and so to keep things going another AKT trained team member, David LaRocca, has stepped up to take the reigns. So below you'll see his bio, a practice that for better or for worse, I'm going to be suggesting that we use in the future in order to get to know our leaders better. My biggest concern with David is his lack of experience and I have checked with Bill Rushing at KPMI to make sure that he is eligible, which he is. Also I'll personally be on the team and I feel other veteran Kairos members will be too, so David should have plenty of help. Also I have met with David and and the leadership from Draper and have concluded through our discussion that he can not only handle the job but with his background in computer programming may be just the guy we need in order to get Ezra up and running, as it should be. So it's my hope that you guys will give your approval but please vote your conscience. And please shoot me an email with your vote.

AL State Chair

Hello State Board Members,

My Name is David G. LaRocca, I am 56 years old and am currently employed as a Senior Software Engineer.  I have been living in Birmingham for almost 1 year. I currently have no home church as I am still visiting different churches. Before staying in Birmingham, I had lived in Alabama for 28 years (Jemison, Alabaster, Helena, Birmingham & Hoover). I was born in Providence, Rhode Island. I actually grew up in East Providence. I lived there for 23 years (except for 5 months spent away at college). What brought me to Alabama was to attend a program at UAB called the Surgeon’s Assistant Program. To make a long story short while waiting to start the semester I fell head over heal in love with a beautiful southern belle. So much so that after dating for a few months I asked her to marry me. I quit school to support her. What can I say – I loved her!! Anyway time passed and God gave us naturally 2 children and then over time 10 more! – we adopted them from all over the world. Fast forward 33 years, sounds like a fairy tale life of sorts – right? Well the reality of the story is I am now legally separated from my wife and have been separated for almost 1 year. It was my wife’s idea, but I caused it and am willing to reconcile anytime she is willing. I accepted my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 1976. In August I will have been in Kairos for 1 year, I attended the Draper 13 weekend and have attended all subsequent meetings at Draper. As I look back on my circumstances while very painful, I clearly see the hand of the Lord working in this. If it wasn’t for the fact of my being torn away from my wife and family I would have never known about, let alone have been a part of Kairos. When I attended Draper 13, I really did not know what to expect. I certainly never expected to be blessed in the way I had been, from the fellowship I had with the precious men in white. I was blown away by how spiritually deep some of them were and their commitment to the Lord in spite of their incarceration. With other inmates it was awesome to see the transformation they experienced in 4 short days. The Lord is wonderful!  Jesus has placed in me a deep desire to serve Him by serving the men in white. I consider it an honor and privilege to be used by Him for this purpose. I take this responsibility very seriously. I stand before you a willing servant, a sinner striving to follow the Lord, there is nothing special about me except for the fact the my savior has redeemed me with His blood. If you elect me to be the leader for Draper 14, I promise to do the best I can and let God do the rest.

Thank You

David LaRocca
