Begin forwarded message:

Word has been come to me in the past two days that the Aspen Heights developers were considering withdrawing their request for rezoning.  Yesterday I was in contact throughout the day with the Zoning Department to see if they received the official letter. At 4:30 the key staff members had left for the weekend and the letter had not arrived.  However this morning I found a late email letting me know the official  request to withdraw did finally arrive.

Now for the other part of the story. The council has to vote at their next meeting whether to accept the request. They could vote not to accept it and go ahead with a vote on the Arlington rezoning. Unfortunately the next council meeting is on the July 9th, the date of the originally scheduled rezoning vote.  I will say in my opinion it is highly unlikely they would vote not to accept the request.

Several council members have indicated to the attorneys representing the developers that R4S will never fly with the neighbors. Remember this request only applies to this developer and project.  This does not mean the Chambliss family (property owners) will not make another attempt at R4S as that by far represents their biggest payday.  I am cautiously (and I do mean cautiously) optimistic Mr. Chambliss may finally be getting the message. "Part of something is better than all of nothing."

I do feel we still need at keast one representative from each Arlington area neighborhood) on Tuesday July 9th to publically say thank you to the council and just in case they do not vote to allow the withdrawal. We have come too far to let our guard down even for an instant.

Overall it does seem that hard work and dogged determination can pay off.  We still need to keep the pedal on the gas and attempt to get an appropriate zoning. I have suggested RD2 and RA1 as possible rezonings. These zonings would allow up to two and half story cottages. However it could not be gated community and more importantly limits the units to a maximum of three bedroom.  Naturally I like Councilman Lundell's idea of a retirement community as it would be a good fit with little impact on traffic, noise, security, etc.

Thanks again to all of you for your hard work and support.
