Positive Coaching Alliance was established at Stanford University in
1998. PCA believes that winning is a goal in youth sports but that
there is a second, more important goal of using sports to teach life
lessons through positive coaching.
In the United States, youth are dropping out of sports at an alarming
rate. A major contributing factor is the "win at all cost" mentality
of many parents and coaches that creates a pressure filled environment
for the kids and ultimately turns them away from sports. According to
Michigan State University's Institute for the Study of Youth Sports,
children participating in organized sports tend to achieve higher
results in school, develop excellent interpersonal skills and lead
healthier lives.

I just attended the PCA meeting tonight, and it was very good, I was a
little skeptical on how informative it was going to be, but was
pleasantly surprised. The speaker kept everyone's attention, working
on lots of situational things we can all take back to our teams. I
encourage all Managers and Coaches to attend if possible, you will not
be disappointed, and you will also take away some good literature. My
comments at the end of the meeting were as follows, not long enough,
very informative, and well worth the $5 to get in, I showed up prepared
to be bored, but it never happened.
The next meeting is on Tuesday ( tomorrow night ) from 5:45pm to 8pm.
Below are directions.
The Civic Center is the new building downtown Hillsboro at the corner
of 1st and Main, 150 E Main Street, Hillsboro, 97123. The parking lot
and limited space below the Center is accessible from Washington (the
street Max runs on) and/or 1st. There is also the parking garage right
across 1st from the Center. Star Bucks also sits right on the corner
of Main and 1st, street level, if you want to stop there on your way
in.
For those that might want to take Max, Max will drop you off at 2nd
(across from the Sport's Look and bowling alley) or at the "end of the
line" which is behind the post office on 1st and Main.
The elevator to the Center is in the middle of the parking spaces under
the Center facing Main Street. There are also stairs all the way
around the building, any side you want to go in.
Thank You,
Brian Krahmer
