The training hike this Saturday begins at Robert Moses State Park, Field 5, near the lighthouse boardwalk entrance.  Although the pace will be quick, the land is flat and we'll be walking through the  many scenic and diverse communities along Fire Island, heading east toward Ocean Bay Park and beyond, then  returning west along the sandy ocean beach (approximately 13+ miles round trip).

You can also start out with the group and do a shorter distance or a slower pace on your own.  The Fire Island Lighthouse is a beacon visible for miles, and with ocean and bay on both sides, it is easy to find the way back.  Water is essential, a snack is optional.  You may wish to bring a picnic lunch for after the hike.  This hike is on rain or shine.
