Dear Br.  Khalid Shaukat

Wa Alaikkumu salaam wa Rahmathullaahi wa Barakaathu hu

Jazak Allahu Khaira for the mail asking for the hadeeths which say that during  Hajjathul Wida, Day of Arafat fell on Thursday.

We are happy for your query as it shows that you are studying the subject.  It is  characteristic of a believer that he seeks knowledge;  is always ready to discard his misconceptions and is ready to accept the truth.

In your mail you have written “after Magrib on Thursday (meaning Friday had started)”. This is wrong! Thursday Magrib is not Friday !!!

Before quoting the hadeeths which you asked for, let us make it clear that we have given many times, evidences from Quran and hadeeths  proving  that the 24-hour period in Islam starts at Fajr and not at Magrib.  You nor anyone else have given any evidences to prove your contention that the 24-hour period in Islam starts at Magrib.

Till you provide convincing evidences from Quran and hadeeth, you have to accept the truth that the 24-hour period in Islam starts at Fajr.

So, the verse 5:3 was revealed on Thursday, 9th Zul Hijjah 10.

We are giving below the relevant hadeeths:

To prove further the fact that the Day of Arafat during Hajjathul  Wida was on Thursday, we are giving below the speech rendered  by the Prophet (Sallalaahu alaihi wa sallam)  on Friday, 10th of Zul Hijjah 10 H.  Ibn Kathir explains in his Tafsir:

“ Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Bakrah said that the Prophet said in a speech during his Hajj,

(The division of time has turned to its original form which was current when Allah created the heavens and the earth. The year is of twelve months, out of which four months are sacred: Three are in succession Dhul-Qa`dah, Dhul-Hijjah and Muharram, and (the fourth is) Rajab of (the tribe of) Mudar which comes between Jumada (Ath-Thaniyah) and Sha`ban.'' The Prophet then asked, (What is the day today') We said, "Allah and His Messenger know better. He kept quiet until we thought that he might give that day another name. He said (Isn't it the day of Nahr) We replied, "Yes.'' ……..

UNQUOTE

As per authentic hadeeth, the day of creation was Friday and from the above it is clear that 10th Zul Hijjah (Day of Nahr) 10 H fell on a Friday.

Br. Khalid Shaukat ! So, it is now established that Day of Arafat during Hajjathul Wida was on Thursday.  This also clearly establishes the fact that Zul Hijjah during Hajjathul Wida started on Wednesday  following the conjunction  of Zul Qaidha  on Tuesday (29th Zul Qaidha).

It further establishes that the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alaihi wa sallam) started the new month of Zul Hijjah without seeing the hilaal on that Tuesday as no hilaal will be seen on the conjunction day.  In fact it was not the practice of the Prophet (Sallalaahu alaihi wa sallam) to search for the setting hilaal in order to start the new month.

Though a number of hadeeths about Hajjathul Wida were recorded, there is not even one hadeeth which says that the Prophet (Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) or the Sahaba (RA) went in search of the hilaal on Tuesday (29th of Zul Qaidha).

We request you to study the evidences provided in depth and accept that to arrive at correct dates which tally with the moon phases, as directed in Quran 2:189, you must take the conjunction day as the last day of the month and start the new month on the following day at Fajr, irrespective of the time of conjunction.

We also request you to make good use of your organisation to observe the "Urj Oonil Qadeem" and report the sights so that it will be easier to find out the Conjunction day (last day).

May Almighty Allah forgive the sins, errors and faults of all of us and provide a place for all of us in Jannathul Firdouse - Aameen

Wa Salaam

Dear Mohamed Sultan,
assalamu alaikum,
You wrote an email some time ago about giving some reference to some Hadith book that Hajjatul-wida' in Prophet's time happened on Thursday. Because the ayah, "al-yauma akmaltu lakum deenakun .........." was revealed on such occasion and it was after Maghrib on Thursday (meaning Friday had started).

Can you please give me that reference (from which book did you quote)?

Jazakllahu Khairan

Dear Br. Ahmad Rushdi

Assalamu alaikum Wa Rahmathullaahi  Wa Barakaathu hu

Jazhak Allahumma Khairan for your mails.

Our answers in bold italics within brackets.

From when the ummah is following the wrong method of starting the months after seeing the hilaal?

(When Islam was accepted and practiced in countries other than Arabia, the Jewish practice of seeing the Hilaal and beginning the month on the following day was in vogue. But when we examine the calculations which are 100 percent correct,  we see that the Hillal cannot be seen on the day they claim to have seen Hilaal.

We can explain with examples. This Rabiul Awwal has begun on Tuesday (24 Jan) in Haramain.  According to them Monday (23 Jan) was 29th of Safar. But, according to the manaazil of the moon for Safar,  Monday was the 30th of Safar. We had witnessed 29 phases in Safar. If you are an observer you will know that one can  see 29 phases in months of 30 and 28 phase in months of 29. You cannot go wrong. You will be aware of the carelessness in vogue in Muslim world  as regards to the Islamic dates.

You can guage the heedlessness by checking the Arab News and Saudi Gazette. Though in this month, Arab News is giving correct dates, they as well as Saudi Gazette were showing wrong dates in the past.  They do not understand that no one in the world can change the dates fixed by Almighty Allah on the very day HE created the heavens and the earth.

According to their wrong conception they cannot begin Rabiul Awwal after 29 th without seeing the hilaal or only after completing 30 for Safar and in that case Rabiul Awwal must begin only on  Wednesday. Br. Khalid Shaukat knows that Rabiul Awwal is a month of 29 days and that if he begin R. Awwal on Wednesday  he will be in trouble! )

Was it after the period of qulafa-ur-raashidoon..?

(Yes, Certainly it must be after Khairul Quroon. There is Hadees that after Khairul quroon there will be confusion.)

Your site has given an explanation for 9;37 which should be considered seriously..
You have to provide clear explanation for 9;37 according to the thafseers. You cannot produce what you think as fatwa.

(We are not issuing fatwas. We are pointing out the mistakes in understanding the Qura'an. The scholars must come forward and point out with authentic proof if we are wrong. Our aim is not to create confusion but to clear the confusion, to clear the cob-web now interfering in fixing the months.  As explained,  Iblees through the Jews inserted the Jewish traditions into Islam and when generations after generations practiced the wrong traditions, the later generations failed to distinguish the correct one. If we do not clear the confusion at least now, it will be too late and the falsehood may even put hindrance to the growth of True Islam.

What is your understanding of the ayath 9:37? We believe you are a scholar. We have not explained it according to our whim and fancy.  The meaning given by us is from Tafsirs like Ibn Kathir and Qurthobi. The Qur'an stands correct for all time. It is not for a particular period or for the present  or only for the past. It is for ever.

The Ayath is self explanatory. Qur'aan can be understood from Qur'aan. One ayath explains the other.

“Nasie” means intercalation. It is the periodic adding or lessening of days or months in the calendar for adjusting with the natural system when the artificial calendar gets out of step. Arabs had different types of intercalations in the past. When one day of Ramadan  goes into Shaban because of one’s careless observation we make the Halaal of Allah into Haram. The same thing happens at the end also. This is nothing but Nasie. It is not our own interpretation.

If you read the translation without brackets the meaning will become clear when you read it many times asking Allah SWT “Rabbi zidnee ilman”.

Some believe  9:36 to mean only that  in a year the number of months is 12.  If Almighty Allah decreed on the very day He created that 1432 must start on a Monday and end on a Friday with 12 months in between these limits, then we cannot change the year 1432 to start on Tuesday and end on Saturday with 12 months in between.  If we do so, it is nassie (ziadathun fil Kufr).

It is better for you to preach the masses the subject as it is and not to get in to trouble by giving your own thinking as fatwas.

( As told earlier, we are not issuing fatwas. You tell us , is it not high time that we put an end to this play with dates of the Islamic calendar? Has Allah SWT ordered mankind to follow an impractical calendar? Is the Islamic calendar inferior to other calendars found in the world?)

May Almighty Allah keep all of us in the Right Path.  Aameen

Wa Salaam
