Dear Brothers & Sisters
Assalaamu Alaikkum wa Rahmathullaahi wa Barakaathu hu
Today (Friday) is the 15th day of Shawwaal and moon too is
showing its 15th phase where ever it is Friday. Today's date in
Gregorian calendar is 31st July and it is the same for whoever
is in Friday, throughout the world.
But, unfortunately the Hijri date differs and for this Friday it is
15th for the majority; 14th for some but 13th for some other Muslims !!!
Many Muslims do not mind such anomaly and feel it as natural. Many
think that a date falls on two days of the week or a day of the week can have three or
four Hijri dates !! They do not realise that even though two days of the week are
present in the world, they do not have the same date. They are in fact having two
different dates.
For example: Some part of the world are on Friday with the date as 31st July while
in the other part people will be on Thursday with date as 30th July. No one will
have date as 31st for Thursday nor 30th for Friday.
In short, one day of the week will have only ONE date, throughout the world.
Like wise, the majority of Muslims must agree to the truth that in Hiri Calendar too
each day of the week must have only ONE date throughout the world.
Another reason for the confusion prevailing in the Ummah regarding Hijri
Calendar is that some keep 12:00 UT as the cut-off time for the conjunction to
take place,in order to start the new month on the following day.
It is mis-conception and also astronomically incorrect to keep 12:000 UT
as the cut-off time. A day does not end in 12 hours !!
The correct way is to consider 00:00 UT to 23:59 UT as the duration of an Universal Day.
We request all to consider the Universal Day in which Conjunction takes place
as the last day of the month and to start the new month at Fajr, of the following
Universal Day irrespective of the time of conjunction and/or the sun set-moon set
difference at Makkah or else where.
This is the correct criteria to start the Hijri months on the correct day.
You all may recollect that this very same criterion was employed by Saudi
authorities in their Original Ummul Qurrah till 1420 H.
May Almighty Allaah keep all of us in the Right Path and may He, the Almighty
provide all of us with a place in Jannathul Firdouse. Aameen
Wa Salaam
