The haunting monastic complex is so entwined in jungle vines and mystery that it could be the set of an Indiana Jones film. But it is not. It is one of the great historic treasures of south-east Asia, and is slowly awakening after eight centuries of isolated slumber.

The dramatic towers, bas-reliefs and dark chambers of Cambodia's Banteay Chhmar make it a far more atmospheric place than its famous twin at Angkor Wat. What drove Jayavarman VII, regarded as the greatest king of the Angkorian Empire, to erect this vast Buddhist temple about 105 miles (170km) from his capital in Angkor, and in one of the most desolate and driest places in Cambodia, remains one of its many unsolved riddles.

Called the "second Angkor Wat", Banteay Chhmar approaches it in size, is more frozen in time than the manicured and made-over superstar, and has so far been spared the blights of mass tourism of recent years at Angkor. In 2011, an average of 7,000 visitors a day went to Angkor, making it one of Asia's top tourist draws. Banteay Chhmar, meanwhile, saw an average of two a day, with no tour buses and bullhorn-wielding guides to disturb the temple's tranquillity or traditional life in the surrounding village.

Abandoned for centuries, then cut off from the world by civil war and the murderous Khmer Rouge, Banteay Chhmar didn't welcome visitors until 2007, when the last landmines were cleared and the looting that plagued the defenceless temple in the 1990s was largely halted. A year later, the California-based Global Heritage Fund began work at the site under the overall control of the country's Ministry of Culture, and now spends about $200,000 a year on the project.

John Sanday, a veteran British conservation architect, assembled a team of 60 experts and workers, some of whom were with him on an earlier restoration of the Preah Khan temple at Angkor. Others were recruited from the surrounding community, and, although they are barely literate, Sanday says they're among the best he's worked with in Asia. Challenging them are hundreds of thousands of stone blocks from collapsed shrines and galleries scattered within the 4.6-square-mile archaeological site. Towers teeter, massive tree roots burrow into walls, vegetation chokes a wide moat girding the temple.

Nearby, two young Cambodian computer whizzes are pioneering a shortcut to the reassembly process through three-dimensional imaging. The work-in-progress is one of the temple's 34 towers recently damaged in a severe storm. Some 700 stone blocks from the tower have been removed or collected from where they fell, and each one will be videographed from every angle. Since, like a human fingerprint, no two stones are exactly the same, still-to-be-finalised software should be able to fit all the blocks into their original alignment after they are repaired. "We hope that with one push of the button all the stones will jump into place to solve what we are calling 'John's puzzle'," says Sanday.

Playing PVE on a server with some friends. We just moved from the desert up to the Jungle Temple to setup a new base. We've sealed off the building near the water as a starting point, but are now a little lost as to how best to take over the rest of the "village".

I'm not sure I should even tell you about it. Lost in a lush exotic jungle, Wat Pha Lat is the most beautiful surprise of my (many) trips in Chiang Mai. If you're looking for an experience off the beaten track, far from the crowds, here it is.

I've been to Thailand many times now, and this temple is by far one of the most beautiful discoveries I've had the chance to make. Wat Pha Last is nestled in the forest, a few kilometers down the road to Doi Suthep. Built on the top of a rock, this Buddhist temple is completely out of sight, lost in the lush jungle, as peaceful as it can get. You won't find any tourists here, any tuk tuk or food stall, but only butterflies, Buddhas and monks.

The hike starts with the most picturesque scene: to indicate the path, trees are wrapped in the customary orange cloth monks use to dress themselves. It's absolutely enchanting, all that being nestled in one of these typical Thai lush jungle. We are serenaded by weird exotic sounds of the forest -birds, insects, grinding bamboos, streams... It's truly magical.

After about 40 minutes hiking into the jungle, we can glimpse a large rock waterfall. There we are, this is the entrance of the temple. It's so quiet, we pay attention to every step, to make sure not disrupting this incredible serenity. The divine nature has taken precedence on the temple, making the environment magical. The jungle creeps and overflows everywhere between and on the sculptures, enshrining elephants and dragons. Tiny wooden bridges cross the river, tree roots interweave, poussins hide in the wild grass... Wat Pha Lat has been built under the pretense of harmony, and we can feel it.

Wat Pha Lat is a hidden gem in the middle of the jungle. The start of the monk's trail is only 15 minutes drive from Chiang Mai old city. Drive all the way to the end of Suthep Road, just after Chiang Mai university, then turn right at the cross roads then go up past the rear entry of the zoo. Go up, then when you see the red and white radio antenna to your right, there you are. You'll see a map indicating the trail to the temple. Once you enter the trail, follow the trees beautifully wrapped in orange robes.

It's a pretty easy 40 minutes walk up to Wat Pha Lat, although with the heat, it can be tough. Don't forget water and mosquito repellent -there a LOTS of mosquitoes in the forest, but believe me, it is worth the itch. And of course, as you're hiking to a Buddhist temple, proper clothing, short to the knees and covered shoulders -not necessarily during the whole hike, but at least when you are exploring the temple.

Lost Jungle is a map (runway) with lush jungle, huge vines, giant snakes, enormous venus flytrap-like carnivorous plants, "demon crocs", and temple remains as obstacles. It takes place in a jungle, hence its name. There is a temple in the jungle that is overgrown with vegetation. The first section the player will ALWAYS encounter after running out of this temple after taking the idol is the rainforest. Here the player runs on huge old, dead grey vines, avoiding obstacles including missing sections of the vines, giant snakes, y-turns (but no t-turns) and carnivorous plants as obstacles. The dead grey vines always head upwards into the treetops. Additionally, there are also mossy green vines, which act like slides. The mossy green vines always head downwards to the forest floor. Then, there is a main temple section that the player will usually enter at around 1000-1500m distance, which has a main temple path and has obstacles such as statues and crocodile-infested rivers. Occasionally, the player will encounter the treasure room section, which can be accessed by either the temple path or a zipline (however the zipline can only be accessed from the green vine slide). Upon entering the treasure room, an evil demon monkey can be seen standing high above the entrance; however this monkey is not an obstacle. The treasure room is filled with crystals and gold and bronze statues. It is more dark than the other sections as it is located underneath the temple in caves.

After a disastrous meteorite fall, the jungle, once a popular tourist attraction, became shrouded in thick, unmovable clouds. Guide Allan, reporter Gloria, and elderly scholar Henry set out to uncover the cause of this tragedy. Now a thrilling journey awaited the three adventurers.
