HiParallels
I wish you good success in programming a Windows-VM on Apple M1 Chip. There are many more people than you might think, who are waiting for your solutions to virtualize Windows on M1-Chip. Many thanks for your efforts. (Just bought the new Apple Macbook Pro with M1). Greets Robert
Hey Elie, Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback. We will update this blog post as soon as we have further information about Parallels Desktop for Mac with Apple M1 chip. Thanks and have a nice day.
Hi I used parallels desktop for M1 Mac beta tested technical preview, after 14 April my activated key is not working. I bought activation key before but when I try to activate parallels desktop 16, system ask me previous version activation key but I cannot find previous activation key please help me.

Hello,
I'm a relative newcomer to the Mac, running the m1 chip in particular.
I see that Parallels desktop is the main option at the moment for virtualising windows as well as other operating systems, however it appears to be completely inaccessible.
Have any Voiceover users had luck getting this set up and have any tips for same?
Thanks,
I'm still using my 2011 macbook pro with bootcamp, and it's still working like a champ, especially with the 2TB drive that got installed about 2 years ago. Anyway, I know that sooner or later, I'll have to get a new computer, and I've been so impressed with Mac hardware that even though I still do most things in Windows, I'd never consider buying anything but a mac. I was really excited when the new M1 macs came out until I learned that Bootcamp was no longer an option. I was hopeful that maybe Windows 11 would improve things whenever it is officially released, but it doesn't seem as though that's going to be the case. So, like this original poster, I am very curious with regards to the accessibility of Parallels using VoiceOver. I tried using VMWare Fusion back in 2012, I believe, and it was not a good experience; lost JAWS authorizations constantly, and it was far too sluggish to actually be useable. That's why I prefer bootcamp, but if that's no longer a viable option, I'm curious what options I may have that would be comparable in functionality.
Hello, I've been using PD since 2014 and it works pretty well after the struggle of the installation is over. You can do most of the maintenance etc. things via the Terminal , Bash commands. PD's graphical UI is mostly inaccessible due to its graphical design and element libraries. Its performance in use is very efficient when compared to VM Ware or other rivals. Be aware that you need at least 16 gb of RAM to run Win10 with screenreaders smoothly with Parallels. Same applies to WM Ware as well.

Hi Znd,
That's good to hear re getting this to work after installation.
I don't suppose you have any tips/strategies as far as getting through installation with VO as that is where I am currently stuck?
Cheers.
I just installed parallels 18 with windows 11 on my Mac Air M1 (2020) 8GB 512GB. I allocated 4 CPUs and 4g RAM to VM. And I downloaded ArcGIS pro and installed on windows. I tried installing the software on Mac document file, on local disk(C:) and reinstallation, and rebooting, but the ArcGIS pro just would not open. There is no task on task manager when I click the ArcGIS pro icon after installation. I also downloaded the arm64 6.0.8 runtime windows desktop. I don't know what is the issue. Can someone help?
I have a newer Mac laptop with the M-series chip running on Parallels. Uninstall Version 3.0/3.1 and revert back to ArcGIS Pro version 2.9. It's the only version that opens with these new Apple M-Chips. Also, once you've installed the base version of ArcGIS Pro 2.9, recommend updating and installing Patch 2.9.5. This fixes a crashing issue that otherwise occurs when you mess with layer symbology.
I managed to fix this thanks to several of the comments in this thread. It sounds like the secret is to use the x64 .NET runtime and NOT the arm64 one (though you can have both installed).
It was not working for me until I installed .NET Windows Desktop Runtime 6.0.24 x64 version. The x64 runtime must be doing the CPU virtualization needed by ArcGIS Pro (sorry if that is obvious, I'm still a n00b with virtualization environments). Microsoft says that .NET 7 is even better for this but I haven't gotten around to trying it just yet.
I just invested in the brand new Macbook with the M2 MAX chip and will transition fully to the Apple eco system and sell my PC:s. How will this work with Articulate? Some older discussions raised concerns that it is problematic to get Storyline to function, but what is the 2023 status on this issue? Surely such an amazing and modern app suite like Articulate should work flawlessly on Mac...?
Thanks for asking about this! To use Storyline 360 on a Mac you will have to install a Windows virtual environment. As you've read, there are posts telling of issues getting Storyline to function in that environment. I've been using Storyline 360 with Parallels Desktop and my experience couldn't be better. I've had no issues.
John: Thanks, but I only see the M1 chip mentioned in that article, nothing about M2... I guess those are the hoops I eventually will have to jump through to get Storyline working, but I am disappointed that Articulate is not even considering making it easier for creators who use Mac (of which there are MANY)...
David: I have only just unboxed and installed a few apps on the M2 and I haven't experimented with Storyline yet... I just heard about the hassels and I am very frustrated by it... Having to install (and pay for) a Windows-license just to get one app functioning, is extremely annoying...
The ability to run storyline fully depends on the ability for the Mac to emulate windows through parallels. Due to the M1 being an ARM based processor, it struggled a bit to emulate windows well enough to run storyline. People complained that storyline would get a little laggy and slow sometimes.
Someone explained it to me in another thread. Storyline is based on the .NET framework, and though there are newer versions of the .NET framework available for the Mac, the specific version that storyline is based on is not compatible and thus cant be upgraded to the new framework. They would have to completely remake the program.
David: As an update, I have spoken to our IT-guy and he says that there will be no problem to get Storyline working with Parallells, but I have turned grumpy over this since there is a yearly $200 fee for Parallells, and it just irritates the hell out of me... I gladly pay the yearly fee to Articulate, but this is beginning to be very irritating... I don't want to pay yearly for Parallells as well, just to get ONE app working... Have you tried Bootcamp, is that an alternative to Parallells...?
Bootcamp is not an option as the M2 is an ARM based machine and windows needs x86 to run natively. Does windows have an ARM based version? Yes, but it does not have any of the drivers needed to be compatible with apple silicon. Parallels is currently the only option, but is now a supported method by windows, which is a win?
There are open source virtualization programs currently working on developing the drivers needed for apple silicon. They are coming, it will just take time. I believe VM Ware is also working on supporting windows on apple silicon.
Thanks. Please keep us updated. For what it's worth, I absolutely love using Parallels on the Mac. In 15 years, I've found only two things that won't work on Parallels - Cody Baby (an old avatar program) and games. Other than that, I love it and when I tried to go back to a Windows only machine I couldn't.
Concerning Storyline, I am pleased with the functionality, everything works the way it should. There is a weird trailing/shadowing effect when moving property windows around the interface, might be because of the 120 FPS Macbook screen, maybe?
Storyline feels sluggish, though, but the gigantic project I am working on was sluggish on my previous monster PC as well. It improved when I upped the dedicated RAM for Parallells from the default 8 to 32.
So Parallells is good and it is nice to be able to confirm the gut feeling that Mac is much snappier than Windows. I can now compare things by opt+tabbing between Mac and Windows and the difference is noticable.
As a follow up to this discussion, Storyline had an update on June 20 that stated "Enhanced: The trigger wizard performs faster on M-series Macs." Likely they were able to optimize the code for the trigger wizard in a way that allowed the virtualization through parallels to run more efficiently.
It looks like there is a beta version of storyline that is now 64 bit (finally, after a decade of requests). I wonder if the 64 bit version is more compatible/has better stability with virtualization on the M-series macs.
Can you please let me know how the device appears in the device manager? Does it appear like an unknown device?
Please provide a screenshot of the same.
Also, are you seeing this issue only with the kitprog device or is this issue there for any other USB device?
Best Regards
Ekta
Attached should be a screenshot of the device manager. You can seeThe Kitprog appears as it should, However, within the 'devices and printers' control panel dialog, kitprog seems to be doing something strange - it will appear, disappear then reappear in a constant loop - as if it is resetting? This is often accompanied by the kitprog mode light flickering erratically too.
Parallels ask for permission to connect to Cypress KitPRog. After selecting yes, I see USB Serial Device (COM4, but I do not see kitprog ) under Ports(COM &LPT). Interestingly I do not see USB devices (as shown above), only USB controllers.
