Greetings!
California's bicycling community is close to a huge win! The California Legislature approved Senate Bill 910, our 3-foot passing bill, on Sept. 8 and sent it to Gov. Brown for his signature.
We've gotten this far because of the efforts of Californians who support this bill. But our work isn't finished -- in fact, we face our biggest challenge yet.
The Governor has been vetoing bills he deems unnecessary -- bills we wouldn't have expected him to veto -- so we need you to let him know why SB 910 is so important for the safety of everyone on the road.
Here's what you do:
1) Download this letter of support (Word doc) and personalize it by replacing the text in brackets (<<TEXT>>) with your own name and address. Add your own story of being buzzed or hit by a passing driver if you can. That will help the Governor more clearly understand why this law is needed.
2) Email the letter to us and we'll print it and hand-deliver it to the Governor's office. You could also fax it to the Governor yourself at 916-558-3177. Or, use this ready-to-send email message. You'll see a space for adding your own personal message.
We expect the Governor to make his decision on SB 910 in the next week or so. Please send your letter by Friday, Sept. 16, 2011.
Please take two minutes right now to contact Gov. Brown. He needs to understand why SB 910 will help make the roads safer for everyone.
If you have questions or concerns, contact me or Communications Director Jim Brown at (916) 446-7558 or c...@calbike.org.
Thanks for all your good work!
Dave Snyder Executive Director
PS: We made it this far with the help of many hundreds of Californians who care about safer roads! Please help us keep up the momentum by sending your letter of support today.
