I realize this is late, but after riding one of the later portions of
the route this past week (specifically, the portion of the 138 after
coming down from the Old Ridge Route) it seemed a little less than
ideal. I was curious if it could maybe be amended to an out and back
on Pine Canyon Road after Three Points. This would add another
600-700ft of climbing, and cut off a few miles.

I have included a map of the proposed route change, this is also one
of the most scenic parts of the route so seeing it from both
directions would be nice I think.

This would also be beneficial that it wouldn't require an extra stop
out there if there were going to be one, it could be the same as last
year at the corner of the Three Points. Stop, refuel, do the out and
back then refill and head down Three Points road. Any thoughts on
this would be appreciated.

Hi Ryan - what was your cause for concern? I can bring it up tomorrow at our meeting. Can you make it to the meeting to share your concerns?

Thanks,
Paul

No major safety concerns but that section of the 138 in particular has
little to no shoulder and is heavily trafficked by trucks. I think it
would be better overall experience to make it an out and back limiting
the time on the spent on the 138. Pine Canyon after Three Points is
one of my favorite areas to ride in, so riding it in both directions
would be quite nice, a few friends are coming up and doing the "new"
century route and I think it's one of the highlights of the ride.

I'm unfortunately going out of town so I cannot make it to the
meeting. If it's too late then no worries, just a thought I'd throw
out there. Thanks for the thoughts!

Ryan,

What's up with the route after the turn onto Hwy138 from the Ridge Route? I
rode it less than a month ago and everything was fine?

Thanks,
Kevin

I like your suggestion for all the reasons you've cited.

It is too late to change the route. The route was submitted to USACycling and it cannot be changed. However we can discuss modifying the route for next year when we start planning the 2012 ride.

Thank you!
