Special Issue Call for Papers: High Content Imaging,Screening &
Analysis

We invite you to submit abstracts on the topics below (or others you
feel may be applicable to the subject) for consideration for this
special issue of the Journal of Biomolecular Screening (JBS). JBS, a
peer reviewed journal, is an official publication of the Society for
Biomolecular Sciences.

Abstracts should represent original research articles, reviews, or
technical notes. They will be used to select papers that will be
reviewed for potential inclusion in the issue. Please share your
expertise in high content imaging (HCI), bigh content screening (HCS),
or high content analysis (HCA). We are looking for high quality, short
or full length data-driven research submissions.

Applications of basic science to HCI/HCS/HCA include the following
categories:

Hardware

* New modes of imaging: FRET, FLIM, FLIP
* Live cell imaging, including 3D or greater
* Flow-based imaging applications
* Label-free bright-field imaging advanced research applications

Software, Image Analysis, & Informatics
* Image analysis
* Algorithms, including multi-parametric methods
* Data reduction and interpretation
* Statistical methods for defining screens
* Challenges and problems addressed uniquely by HCS
* Neuronal biology and pharmacology
* Developmental and stem cell biology
* Image-based toxicology
* Live cell imaging applications and advantages over fixed end point
reagents
* Novel probes for high content imaging
* Nanoparticles, Quantum dots
* Fluorescent proteins

Factors that contribute to successful HCA/HCS-HTS campaigns
* HCS in academia
* RNAi screening improving reproducibility
* Assay development, validation and set-up/scale up strategies
* Automated image acquisition and analysis the gateway to automated
pathology
* Integration and combination of HCS with other analysis platforms
(Plate readers, mass spectrometry, PCR, gene arrays, ELISA etc)
* Challenges in assay development, validation and set up
* Auto-fluorescence

The issue will contain 10-15 reviews and primary papers that highlight
the breadth, strengths and future of HCS. For consideration, please
submit a title and short abstract conforming to JBS submission
standards, (link below, approximately 250 words), to
lb...@sbsonline.org before Friday, October 30th, 2009.

Criteria for abstract acceptance are: (a) clarity of presentation, (b)
defines a working capability of HCS (rather than theoretical or highly
specialized applications of HCS), (c) contributes to overall scope of
HCS science and applications (multiple submissions around a single
topic will result in a single abstract from the group being selected)
and (d) scientific and professional diversity of the contributors.
Following abstract acceptance, accepted articles will need to be
completed and submitted for review by Wednesday, December, 30th 2009.
Articles submitted at this time will be peer-reviewed by a small
editorial board to insure scientific rigor, clarity of expression and
integration with other contributions in the special issue.
