Ihave a machine with an SSD, but the Users folder is on a large network drive. It appears Fusion 360 installs itself completely into my Users/username/AppData folder, not in C:/Program Files as is customary. This means all the installed files are on the network drive, which makes Fusion startup much slower than it could be. I would like to only keep my design data in Users/username and move the program itself onto the SSD. Is there a way to specify the installation location for common files?

I am not sure if you have permission to create a folder link in your network drive? If yes, maybe a workaround for you would be to create the folder link "webdeploy" in your user folder of network drive, which points to a folder in your SSD disk. For example:

Thanks, that worked like a charm. It now starts in 10 seconds rather than 3 minutes! I just hope that any future updates will correctly follow the link and not recreate the webdeploy folder in AppData.

I think the choice to use that location is a good one. I have no installation rights on my machine, and it was a pleasant surprise to immediately start using the software. I was expecting the user access dialog to appear and it did not.

now you wanna follow patrick instruction on 2: TYPE cd (spacebar) then type the location of fusion360, for example, if it's installed on your C drive, then it will be C:\User\.......... you can get it by clicking twice and copy on the file folder space.

Hey there! I'm checking in here to see if anyone was able to test a Fusion 360 update after using this method to change the install location? I'm currently developing an article for our knowledge base so that this information is easier to find.

I honestly can't believe this. Maya installs in Program Files. Max installs in Program Files. The Autodesk Desktop app installs to Program Files. All my other PROFESSIONAL software installs to Program Files. But Fusion installs... in my user folder?? How am I supposed to manage my apps when they're scattered all over the place?

I can't even FIND the Fusion app on my hard drive, because "AppData" is a hidden file on my computer. I want to assign it to open STP files but I can't because I can't browse to the hidden folder that Fusion is on.

Installing application in a location outside C:\Program or C:\Program (X86) with mixed executable and data files, makes my PC vulnerable for virus attacks. Applications are expected to be able to read and write to the user folder AppData\Local which makes it really difficult to figure out how the the anti-virus system should be configured to protect each and every of the files that could contain some executable code.

It is therefore a significant security risk to install Fusion 360, and it suprises me that a company like Autodesk lets a design like this pass their quality review. Looks more like some hack a teenager could have been producing for personal use.

I got to this thread for the same reason... I'm not a computer whiz, nor do I want to be. I was just trying to assign a STEP file to always open using Fusion and then realized it was going to be a PITA. I'd really prefer NOT to go down a Google / YouTube / Forum threads rabbit hole to change / redirect / whatever my Fusion location.

I have no goal to be an IT person, I'm a furniture designer & general contractor who uses 3D CAD...

I even have TWO times 2.8 GB folders with almost identical Fusion 360 subfolders sitting below some hexadecimal code named folders. Not only that Autodesk doesn't let you chose the installation location, which would be beneficial given my small system hard disk, it also doesn't install at a standard location but in a by standard setting hidden subfolder, inside of which subfolders with cryptic names are being created where the app is being installed. Every single update, I get a new one of these subfolders, and I don't know which one is safe to delete. Please, Autodesk, GET THIS FIXED!

I find this program download and setup so utterly annoying. I wasted at least 3 days recently of both mine and my IT department trying to sort this out. It was working, but when I renewed my license I was locked out of my account. We are going in circles trying to load the software and getting nowhere with Autodesk Helpdesk. This is our "test run" of whether this should be our future default program for our team. So far its failing.

Hello everyone so I have a question I desgin alot of stuff right now just for fun as I am waiting for my cnc machine and 3d printer to come in but I am running into a problem I cant seem to figure out how to turn my desgin into a blue print for making simple objects by hand

We can create drawings in Fusion from your design. If you have a design open in Fusion, click on the main menu dropdown (peice of paper with a down arrow next to it) and select create drawing from design. Once you have your drawing open, it looks like you will want to start by placking a base view, and then some projected views. Give it a shot and tell us what you think. We've been actively developing our drawing capability, and we'd love to hear your feedback, and there is a good chance any capability or enhancement you are looking for is on our development roadmap. It seems to me and this might be just because I have been using Fusion 360 for all of 3 days and I dont know how it all works, but that being said it seems that the user interface is quite complicated in something as simple as making drawings. It really acts like when you trying to model something but all we are doing here is just creating a drawing

One thing I did notice is that like my center image I could not use the deminsion tool to get the diameter of the 3 circles on the top for some reason when I would go to select it nothing happened I could only do it on the other views I am guess that it has something to do with the particular view that I was in

For the first question, dimensioning the three holes in the middle view, we don't currently support dimensioning to isometric views. It is on our radar and you can expect it in a future release, but we're not there yet. If i model a box in fusion I can now create the Blue print to go along with it but if I wanted to minimize the amount of material used out of say a 4'x8' sheet of wood is there a way to generate a cut sheet specific to that material

The short answer is we can't do that yet - optimizing your sheet layout would need to be manual. This is a little further out, but we have a lot of requests for sheetmetal functionality: layout, bend calculation, corner relief, layout optimization, drawing support, and so on. This is on our roadmap, but it is further out at the moment, and I wouldn't realistically expect what your askeing before mid to late next year at the earliest.

Not exactly the same issue as the one where it crashes without ever appearing. If I start Fusion360 on one of my larger external monitors (with the primary monitor being too small to work with the software), the program will start, display its main window, and pin the CPU at about 50% for hours without ever allowing any user interraction. I can, instead, start Fusion360 on my primary monitor without it freezing, and move it to one of my second monitors, and continue using it, but with "hazards": if, after moving the program to an external monitor, I click on my name dropdown in the upper-left corner of the program, it will freeze up as described above, and stay frozen until I kill it in the task manager. If I had, instead, left the program on the primary monitor, and then click my name dropdown, Fusion360 will display the dropdown, and run correctly without any freezing.

My system has integrated Intel graphics and a discrete NVidia graphic board. If I run with either one being what the Fusion360 launcher (fsionlauncher.exe) starts with, via the NVidia control panel, the behavior is the same, and it does not fix the freezing.

One workaround, but still buggy, is to make the external monitor the primary display by checking "Make this my main display" under the Windows Display Settings. When moving Fusion360 back to the laptop display, it will seem to work, but eventually freezes up depending on the actions used inside of Fusion360.

This works, but is still an inconvenient alternative: It stops freezing once the secondary display is either set to the primary display via "Make this my main display" under Display Settings, or when the resolution of the secondary display is made the same as the primary display, so in your case 1080P for both laptop and secondary monitor. In the first alternative, freezing will still occur when using it on the display that isn't the "main display".

Will there ever be a fix for this problem? I imagine that there are quite a large number of people with multiple monitor setups, even the basic users of today have 2. Seems a strange problem to have not been resolved yet.

I don't have any of those listed in programs but I do seem to recall sonic suite being somewhere. A quick search reveals a user stating it has to be removed from the windows registry, something I will have to deal with later. For now I have just put it back on the main monitor. Seems an inconvenience to have to go into registry and remove keys and potentially cause problems if not done correctly.

No problem Phil and thank you for your help, I guess my point was that I don't have these programs listed in control panel programs list so I am unable to uninstall it via conventional means, I'm not even sure if it is not in that list then how can it be installed unless it is some kind of service that runs in the background. My short research at the time only came up with having to remove the sonic registry key. Its not a major issue and am working around it. I know the Autodesk team work hard to fix all of these issues and some may take longer than others. I appreciate even having access to such a great platform.
