Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to announce that the 4th High-Pressure Single-Crystal X-ray Diffraction Summer School will take place at the University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh, United Kingdom) from July 6th to July 10th 2026.

This five-day School aims to introduce the cutting-edge method of single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) of microcrystalline multiphase samples under extreme pressures generated in a diamond anvil cell. The programme targets early career scientists (master and PhD students, post-docs) as well as established researchers working in the high-pressure research field.
During the School, an overview of the fundamental theoretical and methodological principals will be provided, covering diamond anvil cell preparation, experimental strategies, laser heating, and an introduction to various software and SCXRD. This will be delivered through lectures accompanied by demonstrations, hands-on sessions, and step-by-step tutorials. By the end of the School, participants are expected to be proficient in conducting basic high-pressure SCXRD experiments, as well as in data processing and interpretation.

The application deadline is April 30th 2026. The School is limited to 35 participants, selected to ensure diversity and equality, with priority given to those applying first. Acceptance decisions will be made by May 7th 2026.
The School’s registration fee will be about £480, which includes accommodation and all meals for the duration of the event, among other benefits. This is thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Scottish Universities Summer School in Physics (SUSSP), DACTools, Almax easyLab, Rigaku and the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions (CSEC).

All participants are required to present a poster.

We look forward to seeing you in Edinburgh!
Best regards,
Dominique Laniel (School's chair)

And the organizing committee,
Natalia Dubrovinskaia, Elena Bykova, Leonid Dubrovinsky and Maxim Bykov
